China Moon — Restaurant in Hickory

My husband and I really used to like this place, but it has gone downhill in the last 6 months. I don't know if it is a new cook or what the problem is but the food has been very inconsistent. Sometimes it is good like it used to be, and other times, not the same. The last time I was there at the end of June, I ordered sweet and sour triple delight. What I got was an overcooked box of coating. Everything inside the coating was dried out and inedible. I have not been back since then because I was out of state on vacation for 2 weeks, then tested positive for Covid the day after my return. Have been sick since.. So today, I drive the 12 miles from my house to get Chinese. When I went and showed pics of my receipt and the food I got the last time, I was told by the mother that it was too long ago to do anything about. Needless to say, I won't be returning there. Just lost customers due to poor customer service and satisfaction. So if anyone knows of a good Chinese place around, I'm taking recommendations. This is my absolute favorite Chinese food. I used to drive 30 minutes to eat their food. Tonight I ordered a small chicken with garlic sauce no veggies and one egg roll. I got there and since I love the place I just let a few things slide… she forgot to charge for the egg roll, that’s fine, we added it. I step to the side to look inside the box briefly and and I see there’s veggies so I close it and tell her and she said I asked for no veggies and I said that’s correct and it took her a second to realize what I meant… thats ok too. I told her everything was fine. I get home and there’s no garlic sauce on the chicken 😭😭 I didn’t notice this at the restaurant. I’ve been coming to China Moon for over 20 years—it used to be one of my favorite spots. I recently returned after a long time away and was really disappointed. The chicken in my usual chicken and broccoli dish was too chewy,almost slimy, unpleasant, and possibly undercooked. It didn’t taste fresh and felt like I was biting into skin or fat.

I don’t mind paying more for quality, but this meal felt careless. I’ve always liked this place, which makes it hard to leave a negative review—but if the quality has dropped and there’s no accountability, customers deserve to speak up. I hope...
