We came here for brunch but didnât realize they completely stop serving breakfast items at like 11:30, so my son (small child) had a hard time trying to pick a lunch item when he thought he was getting pancakes. We all ordered and my kids got lemonade. Well they said it tasted funny and my husband tried it and said yeah, itâs like the bag is empty or something, so we said something to the server and she just asked if they wanted something else and took the old ones away. My oldest and myself, we ordered the BBQ burger and mine had everything on it, but we didnât realize until he had finished that they left off the pulled pork, the bbq sauce, the onion straws and the bacon, pretty much everything. And at that point he had already eaten it so we couldnât say something. But that sucks. I overheard the server tell the table next to ours they ran out of onion straws, so maybe they ran out and never said anything to us and still charged us for the entire burger. My husband got the bleu cheese burger and they didnât put the bleu cheese on it! Like what the actual heck. Normally we would write a place like this off completely for these things, but maybe it was an off day since the other reviews are so good. My little kids got the kids cheeseburger and they were bloody, you should not be cooking kids burgers medium, ever. They should always be well done. The food was good and for that reason weâll be back to try again, but the server pretty much ignored us, as she seemed to be the only one working. She was serving, seating and bussing tables. When we walked in, the lights were off and she didnât even greet us. Just looked over at us and kept cleaning tables. We waited maybe 5 minutes before being acknowledged. It was very strange. Iâm cutting her a break because she seemed to be the only one, but if it happens next time we go in, thatâs not good. Also, the decor has the potential to be super cute, but the wallpaper is falling off the walls, which needs to be addressed, itâs not...
Read moreRarely finding time to patronize the Beechwood Cafe, given their limited hours of operation, I made a point to arrive precisely at 9am Sunday March 5th so I could have first pick of the delicious homemade baked goods. I choose 4 blueberry muffins, two slices of coffee cake & a cinnamon roll. When in Rome, am I right? After being seated with a menu, I ordered an ice water w/lemon and the Ahi Tuna Salad with their house made dressing, to go. Having a background in the food industry, I was aware that dining alone at a table that could seat four was not ideal for anyone involved. Mind you, there was no line at the door & two tables in the section I was seated were open. Taking the food & leaving seemed in everyoneâs best interest. The waitress leaves. Five minutes later a woman, the owner, comes to my table & explains they do not offer take out on weekends. Pointing out the need to concentrate on guests dining in. I was unaware of said policy. While taken off guard I attempted to navigate the situation by asking if she would like me to move, she said no, that they would make an exception this one time but I needed to be aware in the future. I then offered to eat my salad in the restaurant, however at this point idk what difference that would have made. She said that was not necessary and went back into the kitchen. 8 minutes later a man (the owner/chef) brings my food to my table and begins to berate me, loudly, for having the nerve to order food to go. Accusing me of âdirtying up a tableâ (with my lemon waterâŚ) & screaming that I should be able to understand why this request was unacceptable. I sat speechless until his wife came back out and yelled at him to stop and to get back in the kitchen. Then I paid my $50 tab, tipped my waitress $10 and left, for...
Read moreWe stopped in at Beechwood Cafe on our way back home to Chicago. Husband (Matt) and wife (Lisa) own this clean, cozy restaurant. Our server was RJ who is an asset to this restaurant. Although the portion sizes were small for the skillets, the food is outstanding. I was surprised though, when I asked RJ if I could have a side of waffles with my skillet, he told me he had to ask. I can only assume he asked Lisa/owner and when he came back he said I could have waffles but had to order a full meal of fried chicken and waffles. I didnât want fried chicken and waffles, I wanted a skillet with a waffle on the side. To make a customer order and pay for a whole extra meal to get a waffle at a breakfast place is just ridiculous! We also got there around 10 am and they were also out of pancake batter?? If you run out of pancake batter mid morning hereâs a novel ideaâŚ..make more!! Then we got a visit from owner/chef Matt which was the highlight of our visit. He walked up and introduced himself and we told him the food was excellent and I took the opportunity to suggest people be able to order a side of waffles. He seemed to explode and asked (very loudly) âWho, who told you that?â After seeing how mad her husband chef Matt got, she jumped in and said âNo , thatâs not true you can order a side of waffles.â Nothing like taking responsibility for what you tell a server then blaming it on your server. After Matts temperamental outburst he just walked away from our table and left his wife to talk with us. Although very unprofessional, we found it very entertaining and got a good laugh at his expense. Bottom lineâŚ..outstanding food, great server(RJ should get a raise) but Matt should stay in...
