A sushi lover's paradise.
As someone who has been eating sushi for the past 30 years, who also used to travel quite often for work, I have had the pleasure of sampling a wide range of sushi from various restaurants across the country. While visiting High Point for work last week, I stumbled upon Sake Sushi, and it immediately made it to the top of my list of all-time favorite sushi spots.
The moment you walk through the door, you are welcomed by the warm and attentive staff, which includes Mimi, Mark, and Kim. They immediately made me feel right at home, and even remembered me when I came back this week!
While they have a very impressive selection of special rolls, many of which are named after their regulars, I believe that the true test of a sushi restaurant lies in the simplicity...so I ordered a Sushi Regular - 8 pieces of nigiri with a tuna roll, and the results were nothing short of perfection. The temperature and texture of the fish were spot-on, expertly cut and formed by sushi masters, with fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked rice.
After seeing some special rolls come out, I decided I needed to try one, and once again, they did not disappoint. The roll was a harmonious blend of flavors, crafted with the same expert mastery as the traditional sushi.
Beyond the exceptional sushi, Sake Sushi excels in customer service. The staff truly seems to care about their patrons, and they take the time to ensure that every visit is a memorable one.
After returning to High Point for work this week, I found myself eagerly anticipating another meal at Sake Sushi, and I plan to make it a priority each time I'm in town. Sake Sushi is a stand-out that I encourage any sushi lover to check out.
I don't often leave reviews online, but I absolutely had to for this...
Read moreOrdered Sake for the first time tonight from GrubHub for my family. We had the chicken katsu, salmon avocado rolls, shrimp shumai, edamame, and fried gyozas. Our food was decent overall. The chicken katsu came in a portion size that my hungry hubby was satisfied with and my 1 year old loved the edamame. The salmon avocado roll was also decent, tasting very fresh and nicely portioned with the contents appropriate in ratio to the rice (I hate when there's too much rice in sushi) and the shumai was what I expected from most places that serve it. For the price of the whole thing on GrubHub, our order came out to a whopping $76 (20% tip for driver and $6 delivery fee) which was very pricy for similar quality menu offerings at restaurants I've had elsewhere, although I've gotten more for less. The flavor didn't merit the higher price tag. They also forgot to give us soy sauce for the sushi. I can't knock it completely, because I thought it tasted decent, but I'd definitely think twice about ordering again with this price tag to another restaurant.
Update After their response to my review, I've decided to knock it down another star. I find it baffling a restaurant would defend overpricing their food over upping its quality to make it worth the price they charge. I've eaten at plenty of other similar restaurants that not only offer similar if not better quality food, but quantity as well. Blaming delivery service charges isn't it. We use those same delivery services with other restaurants that don't use it as an excuse for overcharging. Your base prices are...
Read moreWe had an absolutely fantastic experience! Our server was extremely knowledgeable -- I wouldn't be surprised if she were an owner. She helped me ensure my dishes were vegetarian.
The service was attentive, very friendly and warm. The food was DELICIOUS. None of us had anything that wasn't absolutely delightful. The sushi chefs made me a futo maki that rocked. You MUST try the vegetable spring roles; they're Thai-style spring rolls in a Japanese presentation with a spicy aioli and other deliciousness.
My husband had warm sake and I had plum wine, and we loved both. Homemade ginger dressing for the salad. My agedashi tofu somehow managed to stay firm in the broth, and the breading clung to the tofu instead of sloughing off, as it often does.
I don't remember everything my friends got, but I know they loved it. The jalapeño roll is apparently really good.
The only thing that didn't absolutely knock it out of the park was dessert. The red bean mochi was a little underwhelming, as the rice paper got kinda soggy and gloopy. And I'm not sure Hershey's syrup and canned whipped cream is a fitting garnish for such a dish. The fried ice cream was unusual but really tasty.
My husband loved the simple chicken broth soup that came with his vegetable tempura dinner, and he's pretty tough to please with soup.
This is our new favorite restaurant. I'm just sad it took us so long to try it!
Beware if you go, though: if you express the slightest interest in a dish, our server was a master at...
