The service was absolutely awful when we went, as a party of three Thursday night. Our waiter was a younger Mexican gentlemen. There was only one other party in the dining room. Our waiter seemed so totally engrossed with the larger party, I would have liked to order a second margarita, but due to our waiter running off as soon as he slammed the food down on the table, I could not.
We ordered the Queso Fundido, which was not cooked the same was it last time. This time it wasn't cooked all the way properly, which resulted in it being almost inedible. We had two orders of Albondigas Soup, which were excellent; however, when it was served to me the soup has obviously spilled quite a bit in transit. Soaking the napkin under the soup bowl. I can believer it was served in this fashion. The waiter should have never have served the soup in that condition.
Our waters were never refilled, we had an extra salsa cup that was filled with trash (napkin holders, things like that), that was never removed from our table, even though our waiter (and many others walked by) but wouldn't remove it. We would have like our margaritas refilled, but never had the opportunity to ask the waiter. When you're paying between 12-16 a plate you should have to flag the waiter down.
Food and definitely the service was a severe let down. Won't be back...
Read moreI ordered a ground beef burrito, and was extremely disappointed to find that it was 95% rice, with a few miniscule fragments of ground beef, and no beans or any other ingredients. The burrito was also not rolled up properly - the ends weren't tucked in at all. That doesn't affect the flavor, of course, but it indicates that whoever made it has probably never actually seen a proper burrito, but perhaps has only had a burrito described to them. We also got a bowl of guacamole, which had way too much lime in it. My Dad got Mexico City street tacos with skirt steak, of which there were only tiny shreds of steak, and the mango sauce on the tacos was bland and pretty tasteless. The staff was terrific, and we had a really nice time, but it was despite the food, not because of it. I'm from Colorado, where we have LOTS of Mexican restaurants, and I know Mexican food pretty well, and I can definitively say that the quality of this food is extremely poor. Some of these problems may be due to increasing prices of beef and other ingredients, but speaking for myself, I would far prefer to pay more for a ground beef burrito that actually has ground beef in it that I can...
Read moreMy husband and I have been ordering takeout from Mexicali over the year and a half 3-4x month. We love the food but it is soooo inconsistent. Usually every couple months the order is wrong, once or twice is ok but it’s getting worse and worse. We never order through the online portal because they NEVER read any instructions. Lately I’ve noticed they won’t answer the phone forcing you to place an online order. Tonight was the last time we order from there. I called five times and each time was hung up on and then sent to a busy signal. This forced me to order online. By the way the prices per item are higher than if you call it in yourself, that is so wrong. After I placed my order I immediately called to make sure the order was read and made the way we requested, the girl in the phone pulled up my order and said I will go to the kitchen right now and let them know. Both requests were not done. The sad thing is $60. later for takeout that isn’t made the way you like and you don’t know until you get home. We’ll give our business elsewhere that appreciates their customers and takes pride in the food...
