Hacienda Vieja Mexican Grill & Bar — Restaurant in Holmen

I had a good review here for years but just deleted it. The prices have recently gone through the roof compared to just last year, yes I'm aware things got more expensive but this place took it next level.

Went on Saturday ordered a beer..of course without asking the server brings the biggest beer they had- not what I ordered.

Ordered a quesadilla. It wasn't even cut and essentially a burrito. It was too soggy to even pick up. Never had to eat a quesadilla with a fork..

The final straw is being charged for chips and salsa. We got 1 container of chips/salsa when we sat down. Asked for a refill which we have done every single time- BAM $5 charge on the bill. If you're going to scam people at least tell them.

This place lost my business. Food is good but if you're going to charge for chips and salsa on the very first refill and nickel and dime everything, you won't be getting my business ✌🏻

Edit- In response to their reply- I have been here over 10times in the past 2 years. Never once have I been charged for a chip refill so either you very very recently added this or you weren't charging it prior. Raising the prices is fine but don't cut back on quality...

Second time was not a charm! The staff seem to be in such a rush, to the point I think they are vibrating. Waiter was very inattentive. Ordered margaritas this time around they were greenish in color. I asked about it and they said the others were the house margaritas which was an up charge. We ordered a side of guacamole,it was so salty we couldn’t eat it. I told them about it and nothing changed. When we got our Texas Fajitas the guacamole was still extremely salty. The Texas Fajitas had no shrimp not a one.The salty guacamole that was not rectified or taken off our bill. Finally we were charged for four upgraded margaritas when we only had two upgraded. The bottom line I could have brought it to there attention again but I got the sense it would have not made a difference. Our fajitas for two came on a huge platter with nothing to scoop up the food but a simple fork.I asked for a spoon and they brought us a large cooking spoon that was a foot long I had to laugh. The food is incredible quality and reasonably priced! The margaritas are a delight. The atmosphere is fun and upbeat. The restaurant is clean. I took one star from the service because the servers would run away once they thought they understood what I was trying to order but they were in a rush to get away from me. For example, my boyfriend was trying to order an Arnie Palmer (lemonade plus iced tea). He said "I'd like an Arnie Palmer" and the waiter didn't understand what he was talking about, so he started to say "it's lemonade and tea mixed together" but as soon as the waiter heard "lemonade" he said "lemonade got it" and ran away. We also had to approach the bar several times to get refills on our waters because it was hard to get the waiters attention. I don't blame English as a second language, I am empathetic to that. I am happy to elaborate in a way someone can understand when they don't understand English that well, the problem is with them not staying...
