Decided to venture into Old Homosassa to give Nauti Time a try. Ordered the ground beef tacos and scallop basket. The lady taking my order was nice and greeted me when I entered (and singing being cooked smelled fairly good). I asked if the tacos came on flour or corn tortillas, and I was advised they offered both. However, I forget to request one or the other when I ordered, so they came out on flour tortillas. The ground beef tacos come with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. The meat was seasoned just right for a hamburger, leaving in the zesty department for tacos. The lettuce was chopped versus shredded and tasted like romaine versus iceberg, both offerings a nice change up from the norm around here. I would strongly encourage the autumn of an onion and cilantro minced to the toppings asking with a little more zest to kick into taco range of flavor. The scallop basket was offered as grilled or fried, and I opted for grilled. I also requested a substitution for the fries and was able to get macaroni and cheese instead. The scallops were actually seared and not grilled, which was a little disappointing because I was looking forward to a little bit of char flavor that grilling gives. The oil/butter it was seared in was actually quite flavorful, and have the scallops great flavor (minus the chat). The macaroni and cheese was good as well, with a creamy sauce packed with flavor covering shells. I had requested my order for there, and received it packaged to go. When I asked about this, especially since the folks who received their order a few minutes before me had not been given their order in to go packaging, I was told it was their practice to pack it that way at that time of day. This was very disappointing because I was looking forward to enjoying the evening air outdoor dining in Homosassa. Sometimes, you just want the atmosphere in addition...
Read moreJust a two minute drive from the wildlife walk at Homosassa Springs State Park we found this unassuming roadside diner. There was outdoor seating including a covered area with fans, great for early evening at the beginning of October. No one else was there and we were served promptly by the owner, whose husband is the main cook.
We ordered the jalapeno poppers to start. These were not your run-of-the-mill frozen appetizer from a food service company. The owner said they were homemade with cream cheese, and her husband changes the oil and pressure washes the cooker daily. You can tell, because they didn't have the old oil taste that many places do - definitely recommend!
My wife got the lobster roll, stuffed full on a toasted hoagie bun. The lobster itself was more like a lobster salad (plenty of real lobster), and absolutely delicious! The sweet potato fries she got as a side were fresh, crisp, and also very tasty, with the same new oil flavor as the jalapeno poppers.
I had the tuna poke bowl, which appeared simple with fresh tuna, cucumber, red onion, and some type of spicy soy sauce based marinade. There was a side of spicy mayo, but the bowl really did stand on its own merits. It was some of the freshest tuna I've ever tasted, with a slight spicy kick that sneaks up on you at the end! I got it with a side of sweet plantains, served with a pink creamy sauce that was a tangy complement.
Disclaimer on the photos: we were so eager to dig in we didn't take pictures until partway through the meal. Overall, a great experience with some wonderful food - will definitely return anytime we're...
Read moreThis place is absolutely amazing! Decided to stop by after visiting the state park nearby and was hungry for lunch. Every single dish we ordered delivered amazing flavor complexity and the ingredients were extremely upscale. They don't have quite as much seating which is only outdoors but covered so we did have to share a table with someone else for a little bit while it was popular. Thankfully being a counter serve joint, the food is quick to eat and a lot of people were only using the tables to wait for takeout. Parking is limited but we were able to find a parking space without an issue.
The poke tuna and ceviche are a must try. Packed with flavor, portions are a little smaller than you might expect especially with the take out container presentation but it's delicious and you won't regret it. The cajun peel n eat shrimp is tasty albeit a little messy to eat. The lobster roll is fantastic and the fries both potato and sweet potato were super fresh and delicious. It's amazing to see what the tiny kitchen could produce. There was quite a bit of wait since we came during the rush hour lunch time but it's well...
