This was my first time trying El Rodeo and I was impressed. My cousin in Utopia has told me about it for years but I've never jumped in. The first thing I noticed was it was extremely busy and fast paced but folks that were coming in had a place to sit. They brought chips & salsa right away. The chips were of the thicker, courser variety and I didn't find the salsa that flavorful although I sat there and ate it. The salsa did have some kick. It's not the place I would choose if I was wanting amazing chips & salsa. They have a large menu and I was easily able to get a recommendation between a couple of items I was trying to decide between. I ordered the Parrilla for one which is chicken, beef, sausage, & shrimp on a sizzling skillet. It includes your choice of corn or flour tortillas and comes with a side plate that includes charro beans, guacamole, & pico. The food was really good but tough cuts of beef and chicken that could use more seasoning kept it from being great. They also load the plate up with mostly tomatoes, with a few onions and bell peppers thrown in. One thing about this place is the plates are huge and I would call easily shareable. I'm not just judging based on my plate but from the many plates that I saw come out from the kitchen. So...would I go back? I definitely would. But it would take me a while to work my way through the massive menu! 😁

This place was such a pleasant surprise! The food portions are not just big but they're delicious! Good quality chicken and salsa. The salsa isn't too spicy but has enough chile to taste great. The rice was good. Our chicken fajita nachos came with a side of pico de gallo and guacamole. My husband and I shared this one entree and we were so full! The waitress was nice and very attentive to us. As soon as you come in you can seat yourself anywhere you like and we were greeted with that message as soon as we walked in. I am coming back for sure! EDIT: And the restrooms were cleans! Yes! Also, very nice mexican decor and tvs everywhere. Love this place

We went through the drive though because it was busy inside. We ordered 2 chalupa plates, one with picadillo, one with chicken fajita, and 1 enchilada plate. We asked for cheese on all plates, avocado on all plates, and limes, extra limes on the side, and extra salsa on the side. We didn't get cheese on any of our chalupas, no avocado, no limes, 2 small things of salsa. The enchiladas were barely warm. The chalupas were only half covered, the top chalupas was covered completely but once taken off the 2 under where only covered half way. Very disappointing especially for the rise in prices. And when you call no one picks up the phone.

I have never left a rating before in my life but was so outraged that I am now doing so. I Went through drive through. Ordered a carne asada burrito double meat nothing but meat and cheese specifically said no beans! chicken Quesadilla, menudo a tea and water Got home and the burrito was all beans and garbage the quesadilla was basically a chicken taco and not a good one Taco Bell is better… the menudo was contained in a drinking cup that spilled everywhere because it was not properly closed… in the end I spent almost $40 on so called food not even the barn cats would eat…, I frequently went there before the remodel and yes it was a little more dated and smaller but the food and service were great. Been there three times since the reopening and each time has been worse than the one before. Tried to call to express my concerns and dissatisfaction and got hung up on. I will not be going back, and would advise everyone to avoid wasting their hard...

This restaurant displayed such a professional aura of finesse, courtesy, acknowledgement of the clients, thoughtfulness by the staff, superb Mexican food like my abuelita cooked and the cleanest bathrooms in history. My husband and I have eaten a countless Mexican restaurants in SA, Bandera, Boerne and Helotes, Texas. And this darling place surprised the heck out of us.

We had just unloaded a bull at the stockyards and were so hungry for supper that I Googled BEST Mexican Food Restaurants in Hondo and we were fortunate enough to find this one open and running. They had live music to boot! Taking a trip from Pipe Creek to Hondo turned out to be the best evening for the both of us. Our server was even reluctant to disturb us(but was watching us from her corner)since we were having the time of our life. Needless to say, our unplanned trip to Hondo met with our total approval! Marky and Bob Mander Pipe...
