Racist business towards Chinese. We are American Chinese. My parents speak Chinese only, so we went in speaking Chinese. The boss spoke Chinese back to us. We were the first one sat down, but the food came first for our surrounding 3 tables who came all after us. The table next to us almost finished their meal, our meal still didn't. I checked with the boss, he said the kitchen was busy, but I responded, but we came in before the tables who came in after us. So, the food doesn't come in order? And he took our order because no waiters came to take our order until we waved for helped. No one checked on us for additional water or tea. The tables next to us, their dishes were cleared one plate at a time. Checked on them, and chatted. Our table didn't get cleared until we fished our meal, and we asked for extra tea. I over heard The waitress tell the next table that she's from China. But when my mom asked for extra water in Chinese, she pretended that she couldn't understand. And I had to translate, and spoke English to her. Then the boss came with the bill telling me the bill included tips. I thought it was really weird, no restaurants gave bills including the tip, see the photo. I asked the table next to us which are a white couple, they told us no, their bill didn't include tips and they had the bill where you can sign and add tips however much as you wish. Our family tip 18%-20% depending on the service. We clearly felt the discrimination. The boss tried to stop me from chatting with the white couple next to us by asking us what's wrong. Then he lied that was a suggestion. Seriously? You suggest every American how much amount to tip as well? Even American restaurants don't suggest tips unless we are a large table, they charge gratuity. This is racism from Chinese restaurants to Chinese, assuming we are tourists, and we don't know how to tip. I included a receipt elsewhere where we tipped 18%. First, the service was too obviously discriminating us by not serving us any food until 3 tables all got their food. Second, there was no checking on us except for the boss asking if the food was good, no asking if we are doing ok. We had to call for extra rice, and called for extra water. No one was as attentive towards other tables to us. Third, serving us a bill with forced tips, not to other tables. This is racism. The whole order isn't cheap. We did not pick the cheapest thing to eat. Normally, Chinese restaurants' dishes come with rice, they charge rice separately. My first time to see this. We don't care, we can afford what we eat and tips. But even the couple next to us observed what happened to us, the white lady patted me on the shoulder and comforted me. She said some people love white people and think they are better. The couple were even angry for us, she chatted with me for a while because she saw us sitting there when she came in. This is ridiculous. We went there to eat because we are Chinese supporting Chinese restaurants and eating Chinese food. We can't believe we were discriminated against because we are Chinese. Please don't eat here if you are Chinese. If you support racism, eat here. Everything is so salty, that's why we ordered 5 bowels of rice and they charged to go box as well....
Read moreExcellent authentic Chinese food. There are lots of great Chinese restaurants in Hawaii / Honolulu, but Harbor Village Cuisine is the real deal. With a separate dim sum menu, it is a clear favorite in the community; you have to order your dim sum before 2:45 pm or wait until the next day. The manapua (bbq pork dim sum) isn't what you will get from the manapua man in Ewa Beach, but is really good and it's authentic. The lo mein is outstanding as is the fried rice (it was supposed to be a bridge meal after a long day on the water). The portions are HUGE, because they are meant to be shared. You need to have a party of four to get through everything, but you can take it home to share with others or finish later.
Service was outstanding. Parking is easy and plentiful (it's located in a strip mall). Chinese is spoken here and the menu is a Chinese - English combination. It's not located in Chinatown, but the food, setting, and service will...
Read more5 stars for the dim sum, 3 stars for dinner take out...so 4 stars. We had heard this place has good dim sum but came too late to try it. Decided to order some take out and it was just ok. Not really that impressive at all. But finally decided to give it another try for the dim sum and I'm glad we did! All the dishes we tried were so fresh and tasty! I'm picky about my seafood so I was worried about some of the shrimp items we ordered but they were great! I'm not a huge fan of dim sum either but I would definitely go back for more. My husband, who is a big fan of dim sum and has plenty experience eating it, also really enjoyed everything. All the dishes were flavorful and perfectly cooked. I'm getting hungry thinking about it! It's awesome they also have a kamaaina discount. Plenty of parking in the...
