Donuts were pillowy soft and fresh. There is a wide variety of donuts, but the majority look to be plain glazed donuts with different toppings. The blueberry cake donuts were gone, and I was there a little after 9 on a Sat. Better go early if that's what you want, bc most of the trays I could see were still at least half full. Went on a Sun at 9 and there were no cake donuts at all, but she did say they wouldnt have any until Tues so I'm guessing they may have had a supply issue.
I would say whether or not you like the donuts will depend on your taste. The donut holes were good. The first time I went the cream filled Long John left me wondering if they were trying to save $ on cream, but other than that it was a decent donut. The next time I went one of the cream filled long johns was nearly bursting with cream (yum!) on either end, but the middle didnt have any. The second had an average amount all the way through. SO, I would speculate that depends on things like how busy they are, who does the filling, etc. Not a fan of the apple fritter or the cinnamon/sugar holes. The strawberry jelly filled with powdered sugar I would not get again. It (the "jelly," specifically) was kind of terrible. Might have been salvageable if the donut had been glazed. Nor would I get a plain cake with chocolate icing again.
I went on a Friday at lunch. They were out of cream filled Long Johns, but she made me 2 (that bumped them up to 5 star!). Was finally able to get a blueberry cake. It was pretty good, would have been better if it was glazed.
Take cash, there's a 4% charge for using a card. Make sure it's no larger than $20 increments bc there's a sign on the door that says they accept nothing larger. Just go through the drive through. They act like it annoys them if you go in. With the display set up in the windows, it looks like you can see more from the drive through anyway. I did go through the drive through the second time, and the lady was very nice. Fair warning, it is a pretty tight space. They were busy both on the Sat and Sun i went, but much...
Read moreThe donuts and people there are usually good, but i have in the past been changed different prices from week to week for the same dozen chocolate donuts so i wish they would start posting the prices. I stopped going there some time ago because of this. I was there over an hour after they had been open and the employee seemed to be behind in getting started and she had a lot of donuts, but none with chocolate on top. Maybe she had been late that morning and seemed to be in a bad mood. I asked nicely if she could put some chocolate on some because that is the only reason I had come down to get some fot my wife waiting back home, but she said know that would take her too long. I said i would wait until she could put some chocolate on some. She got all mad after i stood there for over half an hour, and finally pull out some chocolate iciing from a frig she had been working besides for some time put it in a microwave and heated it up in two minutes while she did some other work. When the icing was warm it took her less then a minute to icing up 12 donuts, so it really took her only about 3 minutes to get some chocolate covered donuts ready, why she didn't do that sooner i can only guess, bot then she charges me $14 even though they were usually $8.50 the week before and a few weeks later from a different employee. All ahe did was overcharged me because she was having a bad morning, which i have had lots of, but i never messed anyone over because I was having one. So i stopped going back for over two years, but I am thinking about trying them again. Maybe they will have the...
Read moreWe found this place by chance. The gas station we stopped at had nothing fresh in it for breakfast and I was wanting some pastries or doughnuts. We found that the Whistle Stop was 15 minutes away and on our way back home to Indiana. I am so glad we stopped in. Even if we did pull in the exit of the drive through. After backing out and finding a place to park in the lot next door we went in to be hit in the face with the smell.of fresh doughnuts. This is unlike any other doughnut shop I have ever been in. It is really geared towards drive through customers. All the doughnuts are displayed along windows where people.can look at them from their cars or trucks. We ordered a dozen doughnut holes and a dozen assorted doughnuts.
First the doughnut holes are amazing. They are light and fluffy yeast doughnut holes with just the right amount of glaze. Quite possibly the best yeast doughnut holes I have had. The other item that stood out was the apple fritter. These are much different then what I am accustomed to finding in North Central Indiana. More sweet the cinnamony. Light and fluffy. This rates second as my all time favorite...
