This was my second visit here. The first visit back in 8/2021 resulted in two days of food poisoning from the "Texas Frito Pie". This place is very close to my office and I like the other sibling restaurants so I chose to stop back here for lunch today, alone, and give them another chance.
I ordered the Dry Creek Burger - med well. white cheddar . crispy - onions rings . arugula . tomato, white bbq sauce . challah bun.
The restaurant was not real busy but not empty either, but it took 27 minutes from the time the charge appeared on my phone until I was served. The burger looked gorgeous but the "white bbq sauce" was something like McDonalds secret sauce or Thousand Island dressing, cat-gagging awful! So live and learn, that's on me. The patties, however, were burned beyond recognition, literally dry crunchy edges and well beyond well done.
I approached the person that had taken my order, explained my issues and he agreed with me by nodding his head. He said the salad dressing is what they call "white bbq sauce", he stared at me for a moment then turned his back to talk to wait staff about another order.
This food was absolutely inedible. I unsuccessfully attempted to eat the middle of one of the less burned patties before giving up. I finished my lunch at a not so nearby restaurant. Lunch today was 21.70+3.00 tip + 18.33 at the backup eatery, 43.03.
Learn from my mistakes. Avoid this place like the plague. I am a regular at Cedar Creek and Canyon Creek. Onion Creek and Piggy's are great too. Don't know why Cactus...
Read moreCactus Cove is near me, so I'm happy to have a new option in the neighborhood. Catcus Cove, though owned by the 'Creek' restaurant folks, doesn't have the same laid-back feel as the other restaurants in the group. It feels more like a sports bar, and it has the expected good beer menu to match.
For food, it still feels like they're working on their menu. They do have a kid's menu now, and it looks like they're trying to do some new things they haven't done in their other locations. The fried onions rings were good and fairly addictive. I also enjoyed my burger. The chicken cracklins are pretty good but a bit spicy, and the corn fritters are just okay and spicy. The 'Vedge' salad is supposed to come with crushed garbanzo beans and marinated cauliflower... not sure what they're going for, but our cauliflower was plain and garbanzo beans not crushed. There also seems to be some missed opportunities - for example, they have the ingredients for what might sound like a great BLT on rye. And why is there no shrimp taco?
They have a sign that they'll start a brunch menu soon - I'm looking forward to trying it. Here's hoping for a creative use of their...
