Houston Restaurant Week | Another Perfect New Spot for a Date!

Chilled oysters, fire roasted beet salad, and salmon tartar roll were all very wonderful. However, the entree and dessert took a turn for the worst. For my entree, I ordered smoked clam chowder, and it was terrible. There was some sort of reddish smoke flavored oil on top of the soup, which was not appetizing. Unrecognizable garnishes adorning the dish made way to a thick soup that only somewhat resembled a chowder in consistency. There were no chunks of potatoes, and the clams were so dry they were near inedible. My suggestion for improving this dish is to remove it altogether. If your business' intent was to reinvent chowder, just don't! If you want to make an enjoyable soup, then make a delicious soup, but do not make it out to be something it is not. Lastly, for dessert, I ordered the skillet plate, and I don't recommend this dish either. The skillet cake was just ok, nothing special, and the pralines did not appear to be made in-house (they had a gray monotone color with a thick coating). This dessert tasted and looked like something I have had at many other casual corporate chain restaurants. Lastly, I will describe some service blunders. I dined at the bar, but to the review readers, don't be dismissive: there are certain hospitality standards that even bartenders should uphold. First, the bartender who had served me throughout the night disappeared without a word to me, leaving me to wonder if he would come back. He did not come back. I was left with only the service bartender for service. After I finished my entree, she asked me if I needed the menu again (which was redundant as I had told my server bartender already that the soup was my entree). The service bartender also recommended the mediocre dessert, and after I finished the dessert she cleared my plate, and went immediately back to bartending tasks. I had to call her back over to ask for the check. My experiences here are unlikely to lead me to come back, and that is unfortunate as the first half of the evening was delightful.

Update! We had 7pm reservations Wednesday night and waited 15 minutes to be seated. Started with the yummy bone marrow, which came out in 5 minutes after ordering, drinks about 20min. It took 50 minutes for our entrees to be served which the manager apologize 1 minute before it came out. Wagyu skirt steak was tender and delicious but not for that wait time. Dessert was another 20 minutes to come out and was not a complementary dessert for birthday celebration. Would not recommend, wait time and service very subpar with price tags like you’re eating at Mastros/Steak48 (A1 service there). $8 valet. Another Berg hospitality disappointment. Buttermilk Baby ain’t it either (same issues, not shocking). B&B butchers only one worth my time and money. 5/30/24- We were seated promptly and greeted by our server and then he disappeared for 20min. When he finally came back, he took our drink order. 5min later, the restaurant lost power. We sat there while their burning grill at the bar was flaming out causing it to be very smokey in the dining room. Our eyes were starting to water. No announcement from management or update from our server, just sitting in a smokey & dim floodlighted restaurant. Shows very poor customer service. The power did come back on 15min later after flipping the breakers. Our server came by and informed us that power wasn’t fully restored at 100% so the smoke remains filling the dining area, the kitchen and the bar are at a stand still. We decided to leave as we are hungry and have not been served anything in the 45min we were there. Went to Steak48 where the hostess could smell the smoke coming from us thanks to Prime 131 visit. I believe that hospitality is as crucial as the food in a dining experience, and Prime 131 fell short. I hope this feedback is taken as an opportunity for the restaurant to evaluate and improve their customer service. A more attentive and organized approach could make a significant difference.

Ok. To keep this from sounding like a paid advertisement, or review, I’m going to tell you what we ordered and how the service was!

First of all, this place has been open FIVE DAYS! You know what that means! Working out the kinks. So don’t set your expectations too high. Boy were we wrong!!! Amazing!!!

We started with 2 apps - the shishito peppers that were OUT OF THIS WORLD! I always try them at any rest if they serve them. These were the best I’ve had! We ordered the grilled sour dough too. I swear they must be buying their bread from Angela’s Oven. Soooo good! (Don’t know where they get their bread or if they bake their own). Then…the steaks….O!M!G! The steaks!!! My friend ordered the American filet and I ordered the bone in filet. Yes. I said “that’s an oxymoron isn’t it?!?” Our very knowledgeable and very friendly waiter explained that actually it isn’t because the filet is attached to one of the bones in the cow blah blah blah. I was trying to be funny. Clearly I didn’t read the room. Anywho, BEST FREAKING STEAKS!!!! WOW WOW WOW!!!! Ordered the grilled broccolini with it. Nearly licked the damn plate! I’ve tried like hell to make that yummy veggie! Always over cooked. Theirs was freaking fantastic! So of course we had cocktails with dinner. Wine was delish! My friend had a few tequila drinks. We loved those too! And then the coup de grace we ordered the cheese cake for dessert. Split it of course…watching our waistlines 😂 They brought this thing out with a dome over it, full of smoke. I kid you not!! I would say the presentation was the best part, but it was only until we took a bite of that cheese cake. Holy smokes (pun intended) it was melt in your mouth delish!!!

Now for the bad news - it not a LITTLE pricey. It’s just down right expensive! But baby, it was worth every single dollar! If you’ve got the money, you won’t be disappointed!!! Too many expensive restaurants I’ve walked out thinking “that was not worth half that price, much less what I spent!” But not here!!! We enjoyed every single bite!!! And the service was over the top!!! And if you live near it, all the better!!! Right?

Highly recommend it. We walked around the place after we finished. The sushi bar (yes, a separate sushi bar just behind the front bar) looks amazing. Next time we are going to belly up there and try the sushi. Although we saw some guys eating sushi in the front bar.

I think this place is legit and around for a while. It was a fantastic dinner. Don’t miss out!! Highly...

Prime 131 Steakhouse Well Just Another Overpriced! Prime Steakhouse In Houston! Definitely Not Impressed Compared To Others Prime Steakhouses. With A Proven Name Behind Them!

Dine here on 09/06/2025! Restaurant Atmosphere Was Good but The Food Prep Taste Quality Was Just Mediocre At BEST!

Ordered the dinosaur bone marrow and for what you get in general a few slices of dried bread and very little braised short rib meat that’s on top of bone! You are basically paying for The conversation piece of the large bone! As it sits on your table! No never seen anything like it but at the same time Not Impressed!

Next the Prime Porterhouse For 2 ? Not So Much Prime In My Aspects Of A Prime Steak! Being That It’s A Prime Steak It Should Be Well Marbled but It Wasn’t and Personally It Was On The Tough Side Of A So Called Prime Steak! (Guess that’s why they offer to slice it themselves) All Around Tough Steak Nothing Tender About The Prime Porterhouse For 2!

My Friend Ordered The Chicken Fried Lobster but My Question Is Where Does Chicken Even Come Into The Name With Fried Lobster? When Ordering Lobster You Want A Tender Lobster In The End (Not some greased fried lobster tail)

Then He Had The Grilled Bone In Short Rib That Was Ok At Best!

Next The Dessert Selection Was Very Disappointing For A Prime Steakhouse and For What They Offer To Me Is Not Acceptable (Come On Now! If You Want To Stand Out From The Rest Be Creative) This Is Houston!

Cheesecake Was No Different Then All The Others Who Are Not Prime! Fancy Presentation but Blah On Taste!

Final Thought In The End What Are You Really Paying For At A Prime Steakhouse ? The decor of the establishment ? Yes It’s Nice To See A Nice Restaurant When Dining Out but A 3% Restaurant Operations Fee (Really) To Cover Operations Cost!!!

All I Can Say Is Lower Your Prices On Food Cause We All Know That $145 So Called Prime Porterhouse For 2 Isn’t Anywhere Close To That Price The Restaurant PAYS When Ordering In From Local Wholesalers Meat Distributors!

Are You Really Getting A Prime Piece Of Meat ? We As Customers Don’t Know That Question It’s All Hearsay ( I Say This Cause The Prime Porterhouse For 2 Was TOUGH!

No Need To Return I Will Stick To My Well Known Prime Steakhouse Chains Which I Never Have To Question The Quality Of Food and Service!

Win Some Loose Some and PRIME 131 Is On My Loose Some List! Save Your Money Dine Somewhere Else...

One of Ben Berg’s concept restaurants. Had high hopes walking in. Overall it felt overpriced almost like they’re just trying to see who’s willing to pay it.

Overall review? Pretty disappointed to be honest. Booked a table in advance for a guys dinner due to us very rarely getting to see each other. The place was buzzing with waiters but we couldn’t get more than 5 seconds with ours. You’d order a drink and he’d run before others could order theirs. Never felt like we were given any sort of attention, recommendations, anything. Found ourselves trying to flag someone down most the time while sitting 15-20min with empty drinks. We’d order double whatever we planned because we didn’t plan on seeing our waiter for a very long time.

The appetizers were good and my Cod was very good but everyone’s steaks came slightly warm, lacked freshness, several in the group said they could tell they’d been sitting under a heat lamp. One guys steak never came at all and another ordered a well done burger that was raw in the middle and had to be sent back. So two us didn’t even get meals.

I get it, it’s the holidays, but we reserved a table far in advance and it shouldn’t be too much to expect a little face time with our waiter and not be sitting around with empty drinks for long stretches. We were told there was some office Christmas party in the room behind us so somewhat felt we were a little second rate. Water was served room temp like it had come strait from a sink.

Ultimately we were happy to have our good company but for $300 each to spend half the night aggravated wondering where our server is and for most the food to have been sitting out or not show up at all it was quite the letdown. We’d all been looking forward to our dinner but feel we were robbed a little of what should have been a great night.

Also wine list has some familiar names but I’ll say some rather unfamiliar prices. Of course it’s anyone’s choice and I didn’t let that affect my perspective. The Martini’s were great, old fashions tasted more like a whiskey in the rocks like the bartender hadn’t made them before. Seemed to lack the dash of syrup or bitters. We didn’t particularly...
