This was a go to place for me when I lived in the area, service was good, food was great when Bobby and Charlie ran it. We were in the area yesterday and decided to stop in for breakfast, I ordered the chorizo and egg plate, the service was fast but I noticed that the texture of the chorizo looked different went ahead and took a taste but it did not taste like chorizo I was really looking forward to eating chorizo and egg and it disappointed, I flagged down the waitress and told her that the chorizo didn’t taste like chorizo and she went on to say that it was chorizo and that they make it there onsite, I asked her to just bring me eggs. I asked the waitress if Bobby and Charlie still owned the place because the food tasted different and the quality of food was not the same. The waitress said that Bobby and Charlie still own the place but that they lease out the kitchen, well that explains why the food game was off. I considered Casarez a neighborhood staple needless to say we will not be returning until the old owners take back their restaurant. To the people that lease Casarez, taste your own food before you serve it...
Read moreI often find myself isolated when I say I am very cautious around TexMex food. Very often washing away the taste with the next Tapatio bottle I see. Is this despair or maybe hope. After a long day of work I picked this place out of mere necessity, only to find pleasure in the place I once called home. Zacatecas. I arrived and quickly and told myself " Another mediocre Mexican restaurant" Common plating, common trays, common look. However, after quickly eating the rice, fried beans, and the pico de gallo, I had the urgent feeling of home and the nostalgic feeling of being with Family. Was it the beer? I dont think so. The Carne Asada plate had arrived as similar to others I had, but its taste has the resemblance of the pueblo my people once came from. Every taste, A bite of home and safety. I can honestly say I will be back an try the Menudo, and see if its impression can leave the beauty of my people and home...
Read moreCan I just say that I think their cheese enchiladas rank among the best I’ve have in the Houston area? The sauce speaks to my discerning palate. I mean anyone can make enchiladas but then there’s the real enchilada! 🤣 The rice and beans are average but those are never as important as the main dish. It’s a popular restaurant with my family and the locals. This is my second visit and I ordered to-go. I don’t recall what I ate the first visit but it wasn’t memorable. But I tasted the enchiladas and determined I had to return - glad I did. The chips and salsas are average. The red salsa is hot which I liked over the rice to spice it up.
The cheese enchiladas are reminiscent of our legendary and long gone, El Fénix and I’m also reminded of Molina’s but better! 🤤 Try them and lmk what you think!
Lunch specials are a deal. Go a little later because it can get crowded in the small...
