Today I went to this restaurant to eat lobster baked butter and cheese for my birthday. I ate at this restaurant about eight months ago. At lunchtime the restaurant is very crowded so I had to share a table with strangers. Eight months ago I shared a table with about eight people. Out of the eight people, One man was by himself he was a doctor, there was a lady there by herself she eats there regularly, there was a man and his family of 3 and me. I was waiting for my sister to show up but she was late. I was trying to order her food and the man said only one person can order the lobster for $18 and they had to order two extra sides to get that lobster for $18. He said if I wanted another Lobster it will be $32. I said the other lobster was for my sister. He said then you have to wait to she gets here so she could order it separately otherwise they're going to charge me one lobster $18.99 and $32 for the second Lobster. I understood that and I said OK I will let my sister come and place her own order. Well today (01/25/2017) I went back to the same restaurant me and my technician but we went after the rush hour was over. The man came over to the table and told me that we could only get one $18 lobster at the table it doesn't matter if we paying separately or anything we could only get one $18 lobster the second one had to be $32. I said we will be paying separately why can't she get hers for $18 too. he said no that's not true I told him it was true and he asked me where was my receipt from last time. He said to me can you prove it. I said at the table where I sat last time all four of the different parties had their own lobster for $18. He told me that that was not true and if I didn't have a receipt to prove it it's just not true. So I just told him go ahead give me the $18 and a $32 lobster. I ordered my food and it was delicious. I did not like the fact that he called me a liar and kept arguing with me so when the check came I paid it and I didn't leave him a tip. He was so mad he came to my table and started arguing with me again about the tip he said that the fact that I couldn't get the lobster at the price that I wanted had nothing to do with his customer service and he was demanding a tip from me. I said I was not giving him a tip because his customer service is horrible. And a tip is something that is not mandatory. He said the tip was mandatory. I told him the way he is arguing with me and embarrassing me is the reason he was not getting a tip from me. He was so mad he said that the next time I come to that restaurant I will never have another $18 lobster. I am also going to send this letter to FOX 26, Channel @ news and anybody that will investigate this restaurant. This kind of behavior...
Read moreParking is abundant as in most of Chinatown. This place gets packed really, really quickly. The place opened at 11am on a weekend, and we arrived at 11:20 the place was already full and had a 20+ min wait time.
I've been coming here since I was young with large family gatherings. And it's definitely great for that Asian big family sit in a circle order hundreds of dollars worth of good to great food and twirl it around in a circle so everyone can try some sort of thing.
Service is, as in most of Chinatown, pretty atrocious. Inconsistent and unclean. They handed me my water in a styrofoam cup for some reason and there was some sort of veggie stuck to the inside of the cup. Some people got regular glasses and silverware, others got plastic cups and plastic silverware - there didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Seems pretty disorganized and busy. They stack at the beginning of each day about a hundred sheets of plastic tablecloth and whenever a group of diners is finished they just rip off the entire sheet and throw it away - they don't do a very good job of keeping their silverware/dishes - I personally saw them throw away 2 forks. So to say the least they aren't very concerned with environmentalism or conservation.
On to the food - pretty great all around. California Dungeness Crab with Steamed Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaves: A LOT of rice - market price but on my visit was ~$57. The crab is pretty small for how expensive it is and because the crab/seasoning to rice ratio is so skewed, you get a lot of rice that just isn't flavored very well. They also throw a couple chunks of shrimp and imitation crab in the rice to try to help the flavor but it just makes it even more obvious how little crab there is in comparison. There's no way that crab cost anywhere near 60 bucks to make. Although the delicious parts were pretty delicious I feel like it was way overpriced.
Black Pepper Lobster: About $24 for two whole lobsters that are wonderfully seasoned and fried. But you have to order at least 2 additional menu items in order to get this. This one I feel is a better price point than the...
Read moreFood is always fantastic. I’ve been coming here for years and still discover new stuff! Tonight my girlfriend called in an order. The young lady/woman taking my order was SO SO SO NICE AND SUPER PATIENT with my gf and I during the order process and repeated our order for us. Loved that! Most places rush you super hard. I was worried because we were ordering at 8:10pm I know they close at 9pm and last call for orders is 8:30pm but they took my order our order and were super patient / even called us when the order was ready!
Food I ordered: 1 order of 4 x shrimp balls 1 order hot peppers with shrimp stuffing 1 order of Spicy Bean Curd with Duck mince
The shrimp balls were SO f%#king JUICEY! And HUGE! Omg love these. Everytime I order these for loved ones, partners / coworkers they are shocked at how awesome they are. I ate the shrimp balls with the sauce that came with the hot peppers stuffed shrimp. The sauce that comes with that dish along with the jalapeños made for a PERFECT dip for my shrimp balls.
The pan fried stuffed shrimp peppers were so f’ing good. The sauce that it comes with is so rich, and depth of flavor with quality spice level is going to go onto my permanent rotation going forward.
And omg the clay pot Spicy Bean Curd with Duck Mince was awesomely gelatinous and they gave me a HUGE portion for $12.99. The five spice and curry powder was very undertones in a great way to where it let the flavors all mellow together in an amazing way!
Let me say, thank you to the staff member at the Togo counter at 8:45pm today she noticed my box for my pepper shrimp was crushed and identified that and reboxed and bagged it for me. Most of the other to go staff members Ngl have sent me with bags leaking with sauce but even with me coming last minute the lady tonight really made sure to make my order come out perfect and special.
