I gave 3 stars because I love their food... I used to go here on a weekly basis since I went to waltrip (graduated in 2010). I stopped going about a year ago or so because of the horrible experience I had with one of the main waiters that's always there. I was a little low on cash one day but I really wanted some easterns so I stopped by to get my favorite dish.. my total came out to be about 11 bucks.. I couldn't leave a tip this day unfortunately (mind you I leave a tip every single time I go and like i stated before, I went quite frequently). Well as I'm walking out to my car, said waiter comes running out and chases me down and says I had forgotten something. I look down thinking oh maybe I left my jacket or my book or headphones, etc.. only to have him say "you forgot to leave a tip"... I'm like wow so you chased me down to tell me I forgot to leave a tip? I'm sorry I just can't do it today.. to which he mean mugs me all the way back inside. I haven't been back since cos I feel like that was just... excessive. I felt bad for not leaving a tip, but they've come to know me at this point since I've gone so much and they know I always leave a tip... the ONE time I don't, he chases me outside. I just thought that was a little ridiculous. I love their food and I would like to go back, but that experience pretty much...
Read moreThe physical characteristics of both inside and outside leave a lot to be desired. Everything is old and tired. The parking lot was clean. The sign was practically unreadable from age. The inside is somewhat gloomy but appeared clean. I felt like I had stepped back into the 1970's and not in a good way. On the other hand, the food is pretty flavorful and prepared well. I had the Chicken with Orange Peel. It was not bad but the leftovers I took home were much better two days later. The orange flavor had intensified and spread and the bits of orange peel had softened and were edible, for that extra punch of orange flavor. They only had white rice, no brown. The egg rolls were crispy, filled with fresh ingredients and not the least bit greasy. The hot and sour soup was typical but I've had better. My dining companion had pork fried rice. They brought out enough to feed a small army. haha While I didn't taste it, it did look fresh and delicious and it was steaming hot. My companion had...
Read moreI have lived in the neighborhood for 20 years, so that’s how long I’ve been eating at Eastern. At one time their special fried rice was the best! But not any more. Unfortunately, all their food has declined in quality and taste in the last 3years or so. You still get big portions, it’s still relatively inexpensive, and the staff are still polite and accommodating. Fast? Yes, but i think it’s because they make their food is made up in large quantities in advance. That’s ok for rice, or soup, maybe. But the last few times I’ve ordered Gen Tso’s chicken, it was over cooked and NOT crispy and the sauce was cloyingly sweet and goopy. The egg rolls taste and appear as if they came from an egg roll factory. The wonton soup was weak and pretty tasteless. But, the fried rice was the most disappointing! There is another Chinese place up the road; I think they are going to regrettably, become my new go to...
