A Hidden Gem That Proves Why It’s One of the Top 3 Best Chinese Restaurants in Houston Flavor House (味来人家) has been around for three years, and honestly, it has become my go-to whenever I crave traditional, authentic Chinese food. But recently, they leveled up with a brand-new seafood series that feels like a “Crawfish World” collided with Chinese flavors — and let me tell you, it’s something you simply cannot miss.
Instead of crawfish season, imagine feasting on fatty blue crab, jumbo Gulf shrimp, marinated cucumber, golden potatoes, and savory sausage — all drenched in their signature garlic sauce. Whoever came up with this combination is a genius. That cucumber soaks in the garlic flavor perfectly, and when you add the potatoes and sausage, every bite is addictive. I ordered the entire seafood platter in different flavors, and it was so good I’ve already gone back multiple times.
But here’s the real kicker: once you finish the platter, don’t stop. Toss some noodles straight into the leftover garlic sauce, and suddenly you’ve unlocked a whole new universe of flavor. Honestly, it might be the best bite in Houston.
And the classics? Still unbeatable. • Triple Fried Chicken: crispy outside, juicy and tender inside — never greasy, always satisfying. • Deep-Fried Pork Ribs: my first time trying this and I was blown away. How did no one tell me this dish was hiding here all along? It’s crunchy, flavorful, and ridiculously good.
So whether you’re a fan of crawfish boils with the whole shebang, or you’re ready to challenge yourself with some of the best traditional Chinese food in Houston, Flavor House is where you need to be. This place is not just a meal — it’s an experience that keeps pulling you back.

Read moreCame here after seeing a XHS post raving about the restaurant and its affordability (not true), and believed that it was probably posted by a relative of the restaurant’s owner. 😂 Here’s why:
I would have given it a 2 🌟 if not considering it to be a newly opened restaurant. Few things first, do no try to order the milk tea in the restaurant as there are at least 10 different specialty milk tea shops in the shopping strip. I was shocked to taste the powder in the drink from my “Thai tea” and same with my cousin’s “classic milk tea”, I didn’t know powder was even a choice for “classic” milk tea. Secondly, we ordered 辣子鸡丁 or spicy popcorn chicken, and we got something that I have never seen before, or more like something I could make better from my college dorm stovetop. I guess the chef neglected to Google what that dish’s supposed to look like (or taste like). The eggplant was the only highlight and we finished the dish. Sour fish soup was decent except the ratio between fish and cabbage was more like 1:4, could just have used a smaller bowl so it didn’t...
Read moreWe went there because many other places are packed, and want something new. We order noodles, mapo tofu, chicken nuggets, and dumplings.
Noodle - wife said it's ok
Mapo tofu - does not look like traditional Mapo Tofu at all, my was dry Tofu and no taste at all and the spicy does not match what the dish is. All it did is tofu with spicy sauce, and for the price it's not worth for $13.
Dumplings - if you want to charge $12 for 12 dumplings that came twice smaller than traditional dumplings, it's not worth for that price at all.
Chicken nuggets - the volume does not speak of cost of $7, compare with few door down.
As service wise, I think they can do it better because I ask for water twice, and at end I didn't even get anything refill at all. So overall, it costs me $50 for a meals there. Honestly, it's not worth it at all. Time to deliver foods took too long, we waiting for at less an hour for 1 dish came up. This is not a good impression when a restaurant just open for 6 months, not sure if we will ever...
