We were celebrating a special anniversary for a friend with a pure pig out at Golden Corral. It had been a very busy and very long day and the three of us were pretty much starving. That's the best way to go to a Golden Corral.
I won't pretend that the food is gourmet but it is pretty much like down home Southern cooking. When we walked in the smell of fried chicken was very compelling and was the first thing one of us grabbed. He said it was very good chicken. It's one thing you can pretty much always get whether you go at lunch or at supper.
The sirloin steaks were the usual, not very tender but quite flavorful. Carne asada was a seasonal dish. Beef lovers could also enjoy homestyle pot roast. If you wanted surf and turf, you could also get fried fish, fried shrimp, and with it there was fried okra and real onion rings.
Two of us are salad lovers and enjoyed entirely too much of fresh veggies and crisp lettuce along with a wide choice of dressings. I love the availability of crumbled hard cooked eggs to add to a salad.
The super fluffy yeast rolls or treat nearly everyone has to have, with or without the honey butter. There's plenty of both regular butter and honey butter available for your rolls or your choice of a baked potato or a baked sweet potato.
I was so hungry I went right for the sweet potato and didn't even bother to get the butter. I'll need it again playing because it was so tasty. If you wanted something sweeter and more like Thanksgiving at home, they had sweet potato casserole topped with the ubiquitous mini marshmallows.
Service was friendly and helpful, and the server was prompt without being intrusive. This was the first time I took a wheelchair to use at a serve yourself restaurant and I realized something about Golden Corral I had never thought about. The food serving stations are a good height to reach from a wheelchair and have alleged to put your plate on if you're using a cane or another mobility device.
For the first time ever no one wanted to even look at the dessert selections. We were too full for even a "wafer thin mint." Prices have gone up at Golden Corral just as they have it most restaurants in the age of Covid. However it's still a good deal considering the quantity and variety available.
Seniors 60 years old and older get a $1 discount at lunch and supper, and there is some sort of an early bird discount but I confess I failed to check that out. Note that different locations may have slightly different menus...
Read moreI moved to Houston 14 years ago and I Always wanted to try this place . Today I went , what a mistake . I arrived at 4:00 thinking that I will be paying $15+ for a good steak and meal … we paid for 4 people almost $70 By entering you can see how filthy that carpet is … greasy , oily . The smell is a bit disgusting honestly . Food time: we wasn’t welcomed they are some girls in the front that of course are doing their job as a cashier because they don’t act like nothing else . We couldn’t find the plates quick , plates are in one side and the buffet in another side . Food looked sad and generic , not hot at all ( -and we arrived at 4 to make sure that the food was fresh) . It’s many food residue for other food on top of each other . Chicken dry and cold We went to eat meat , but it’s just cheap sausage and pork … pork it’s cheap and low quality meat ..so I don’t eat it The only “meat “ they had , was a chewy “steak “ I told the cooker medium and he has to ask me 3 tiene showing me the meat because he didn’t know what’s “medium “ so I ended eating a “medium rare “ food at the end was placed in the trash it was literally disgusting , they have SO MANY flies inside the place and one of them landed on my salad . No one was happy in our table . I must to say people inside that place trashy as the place itself . A woman was literally beating her 3 kids that were screaming nok stop and running around like wild animals … this is exactly what this place attract because they don’t have rules for their visitors. A witnessed a lot of crossed food contamination . Cold food , oh ! The pie was frozen ! The ice cream is water literally and they don’t even have disposable forks ms spoon for the dessert you must eat the dessert with the same dirty fork that you ate salad and other food . I went to the restroom, and the smell is awful .. 4 toilets , 2 of them urinated and the other other fecal matter oN it .. toilet paper on the floor and a disgusting smell that I wanted to vomit .
This place is by far the worst food buffet I ever been (and I go to eat everywhere ) .
I will never understand how a Bussines can run on filth? They make good money to have well clean looking employees and clean installations . Highly...
Read moreYesterday was my first time going to any Golden Corral in over 10 years. I came because I was invited out by a friend and she wanted to go to a buffet.
The process of paying to get in was extremely slow. When it was my turn, I was informed that a $3 tip was added to my bill for the server. "Are you okay with that?" I mean, I guess......I'm not against tipping but I've never been to a buffet that operated like that. Very awkward.
It was very warm and the thermostat in the front where I stood in line showed 78 degrees. I imagine the cooks were sweating in the kitchen with the added heat from stoves, grills, and ovens.
Our server did the job required of filling drinks and removing plates but made no attempts to be friendly at any point. I don't remember even being greeted by the server. The server just approached us and asked to see our receipts. It made me question the real reason for the obligatory $3. Maybe the server did not have the people skills to earn a tip otherwise???
There were a variety of foods available at the buffet. Most dishes were labeled. Not all of dishes were seasoned well but the ones that were tasted good. I do recommend the teriyaki chicken with the yellow rice.
I witnessed an employee walking near the food with a congested cough, and I do mean congested. You could just hear all the phlegm rattling around. No attempt was made to cover the cough and no mask was worn.
The employee at the meat carving station was very friendly and made me feel welcomed.
The dining area appeared neat. Some chairs have torn seat cushions where the stuffing inside is exposed.
The plates appeared clean but were very greasy to the touch.
I visited the restroom before leaving and it was clear that the stalls had not been serviced in a while. There was toilet paper all over the floor. One piece stuck to my shoe and I fought to get that off. The first stall I went to had no toilet paper and the second stall I entered had a filthy toilet.
There are a great number of other restaurants in the area so I have no reason to return in the future.
I wish them well and I hope...
