I shouldn't have waited so long to try this place! I now have a new favorite close to home. First of all, who doesn't love tacos?! But wait... they have breakfast tacos ALL DAY! I love breakfast for dinner! The restaurant is small, but offers plenty of seating, including chairs and tables outside. The interior is bright with vivid colors. They have trinket items for purchase at the register. It reminded me of what you may see in a Mexico City store front. The order taker was very friendly helpful with suggestions. I ordered the chips and salsa, one Pirata (beef, no onions), one egg with sausage and one egg with bacon. Everything was so tasty! The chips were warm and the red salsa was cool with just the right kick. All of the tacos were fresh, delicious and the perfect size. The beef in the Pirata was chopped and had the best flavor. The sausage breakfast taco had cubed sausage with perfectly scrambled eggs and the bacon taco (also with scrambled eggs) was delightful too. I can't review this place without mentioning the salsas. They have a dedicated mini fridge for the 3 different flavors of salsas. You can get as many as you want. The "GREEN = HOT" is like the taqueria restaurants. It's hot, but not too hot and the flavor is so good, you won't be able to stop eating it. The "RED = MEDIUM" is what they give you with the chips. The blend has a perfect kick to it. Finally, the "CREAMY CILANTRO = MILD" is just as stated: creamy cilantro goodness! Each one was so good, there's no way I can pick a favorite. I am so excited about my new find! One suggestion I would have for the decision makers of this location: change the music. It doesn't change my 5-star rating, but the tunes didn't match anything in there. The music I heard was like a spa. With the bright colors and fun murals, I would think the music would be a more upbeat tempo. Again, doesn't change the fact that I will be back, but I did notice it was the only thing "out of place", so to speak. Great job, L&J's! You really have a good thing going there! I just can't say enough about this place. I wasn't expecting to be so impressed. LOVE IT and highly recommend!!!!! (side note: I wasn't ready to eat when I brought the items home. I put them in the oven on warm for a couple hours and they were still delicious! Imagine if I would have eaten them as they came...
Read more-The Baja taco was served dripping in a thin liquid so heavily that when I opened the foil, it poured out everywhere and the tortillas were wet and soggy. It was extremely messy to eat, I felt like a toddler with how covered in food my hands were. The flavor of the taco itself was pretty good but considering how soggy the tortillas were and the mess, I wouldn’t order again. -The san blass shrimp taco was pretty good as well, they put plenty of cheese on it and it was super gooey in the best way, but they didn’t put the peppers or onions it’s supposed to have on it so I feel like it was not as good as it could have been. -the queso 68 is pretty damn good. It has queso, beans and a “special sauce” mixed together. The flavor and texture were both really good. -the chips and salsa were $5 and I would not have ordered it had I known how it expensive it was for how mediocre the salsa they serve with it was. -Overall I didn’t hate my meal, but for $6-$7 a taco, $7 for queso and $5 for salsa, I expected to enjoy it a bit more or at least have larger servings as I didn’t get much food for $40. This place was really popular with white business men on their lunch breaks if that tells you what to expect.
I might come back here if I get desperate enough, but only for the complimentary salsas, queso 68 and shrimp taco (made property next time)… but then again Torchys is comparable and has...
Read moreCame across this restaurant while looking for street tacos near my new job and I am so thankful I did! People from work were talking about that Cababana place and I removed them from my contacts list, immediately! Luichi and Joesy's street tacos are pretty good, although they only give you five (5) tacos, rather than the six (6) that I usually get from my favorite taco spot in Richmond. If there was another place nearby that gave me six tacos for the same money, I'd be there. One more taco makes a difference! The taste of the onions and cilanro and the way the meat is seasoned makes for a pretty tasty street taco. The side of charro beans was pretty tasty, also.
On the first of my two visits, I ordered three menu items (street tacos, chips and salsa, and loaded fries) and I wasn't expecting them to be big portions. Now I see why the guy behind the counter asked, "Is it just for you?" His eyes got big when I replied that it was all for me. LOL. It was my only meal of the day (OMD). The chips and salsa were very tasty, by the way.
The restaurant is small, but comfortable if there aren't a lot of people eating. The staff is very friendly and they keep the place clean.
My only gripe is that if you ask for salsa, you get about a teaspoon in a little container (see image)....
