Tacos El Jaibo — Restaurant in Houston

I went here after doing some research on where to get tacos. The food looked pretty good so I wanted to try it anyway, but I learned that they have $1.25 tacos all day on Wednesdays.

The special does not include the special meat tacos, but there are plenty of other good regular meats to choose from. Note that older reviews will say $1 tacos but they are now $1.25.

Location

On Bellaire. It's located in a strip mall with easy parking. Parking lot is a little beat up but that's typical for the area.

Inside

The inside is pretty standard. They've got big TVs. They started playing music when I was there which was nice and loud. It's clean.

Service

Service was attentive and kind. I was checked on regularly.

Food

When you dine in, they serve chips and various salsas. I ordered beef and al pastor tacos. They came with lime. The beef was alright but al pastor were pretty good. Tacos weren't greasy like some places.

Sauces

They have sauce bottles at the tables and I did like them both. The red sauce that can with the chips were good. In total there were 5 different sauces for me - 3 from the chips, and 2 at the table. I'd definitely come for these tacos again.

They have a large menu and the prices are good but I just think their tacos for $1.25 on Tuesday and Wednesday...

I've been three times and found the 5 salsas to be very tasty, the food to be a great value (especially the daily specials) and the staff to be friendly. It's a small homey place in a homely strip center. It looks clean to me. I like it. The whole roasted chicken special on Tuesdays with grilled onions, charro beans, rice and tortillas for $9 is a great value. They serve you half, and wrap up the other half with another serving of all the sides and salsas that you want, to take home. The chicken is juicy, pleasantly charred and seasoned very nicely. The $1 tacos on Wednesdays are also a great deal, though I found the chicken to be on the plain side. Stick with the beef fajita and pastor (pork) tacos and you won't go wrong. I was stuffed by 5 of them, so order according to your appetite. Still working the menu to find vehicles for the great salsas. The spicy salsa with chuncks of avocado, onion and cilantro is...

Absolutely incredible! Delicious, inexpensive, authentic. Friendly, attentive staff. Fresh and yummy house-made salsas/hot sauces, nice array of spice from mild to very hot. I got the pozole and it was phenomenal! Served with lettuce and radishes. The meat melted in your mouth, the broth was very full and flavorful, and it came out steaming hot. Also got three tacos, fish, pastor, and shredded beef. The tacos were classic street style, double corn tortilla with just cilantro and white onion. PERFECT! The meat/fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My boyfriend got the huevos rancheros which were great too. We both got water and a drink, and all that for only 23.52!! We stopped in on our way through Houston and are so glad we did. Can’t wait to tell others about this wonderful little place....
