Hands down the highest quality food I have had since moving to the Green Bay area. We had the "double dough" pizza with extra cheese. It was clear that they used fresh, quality ingredients, and I was honestly shocked at how reasonable the prices were. I have paid much more for way less satisfying food many times, since moving to the area. The restaurant has a cozy and inviting atmosphere and while the decor is definitely dressed down and casual, it has a polished feel that gives the impression that it could be pretty fancy if it wanted to be. The pizza itself has a very unique flavor unlike anything I have ever had. I detected a hint of Rosemary in it somewhere, which is normally among my least favorite seasonings, but the flavor was blended with the other ingredients to such perfection that I think I might be changing my mind about this herb. Perhaps I've just never encountered anyone who knew how to use it properly until now. The 14 inch double dough pizza offers a generous portion for the price, partly due to the chewy crust, delicious in it's own right. This pizza is special, folks. I can't stress that enough. If you're anything like me, you have a certain thing you are seeking out when you have a pizza craving. Likely the greasy, cheesy, satisfying but somewhat bland pie that larger chains have been offering us all for decades now. This pizza does not deliver that familiar flavor that I originally set out to have; instead it was so uniquely good it made me question why I have been living in such a culinary bubble for so long. It's not the type of pizza that I'm going to want every time we go out, but at the same time, it's also the kind of pizza that I know I am inevitably going to have a craving for, and when that happens, there will simply be nothing else that will do. I wouldn't at all be surprised to find out that there are some locals who will only eat Josephine's pizza. The service was professional and attentive, I have absolutely no complaints in that area either. This place proved to be an absolute delight to visit and I plan on going...
Read moreThis place was nice, I was in town visiting a family member who recently moved to the area and wanted to check out Josephine's though said they would not want to go alone.
Upon entering they noticed the bar and how the restaurant was set up and said "Oh this would be a great place for me to come by myself".
It's a small cozy space with a small bar, wine options, soda, mixed drinks, e.t.c. There's plenty of seating for small groups which look to be set up to accommodate a larger group.
We were seated and began perusing the menu which was rather extensive. I think the menus could use an upgrade, they felt and looked old. Many items no longer on the menu were just crossed out with sharpie. We both ordered small 10 inch pizzas. I was really intrested in the pasta but I found the prices rather steep and didn't know exactly what I was getting. I had no idea what to expect portion wise, was the pasta fresh homemade in house? And what about the cheese? I make my own homemade pasta and mozzerella at home and can be rather particular. Pasta tends to be rather cheap to make and price range just was not what I would spend on a first time visit.
Before our food arrived 4 tiny garlic knots arrived at our table for us to enjoy which were very nice. A little dab of sauce would have made them perfect.
We both rather enjoyed our pizzas I got the margherita pizza. Salt was all I needed to make it perfect.
Service was good and made even better when the waitresses brought us separate checks without even asking. This was great as my dining partner was a bit of a stickler on paying their portion only.
Overall I enjoyed my visit, would return if it was an option on a return visit...
Read moreMy husband and I have not been here for a few years, so it seemed like the perfect place to go. There was only one person serving for about seven tables. He seemed fairly new at serving, or at least I hope that was the reason he was so untimely. We received our drinks right away and ordered our dinners. It took about five minutes to get the garlic knots. Then the was quite a wait, about another ten minutes, to get our soup and salad. By this point one of the back staff has been in the ladies room twice for extended time. This is key. Another twenty minutes goes by and we finally get our food. I got butternut squash ravioli and my husband got the lasagna, if we can call it that. His lasagna was a plate of meat sauce and cheese. When he did come across a noodle it was so over cooked it turned to mush. He refused to eat it. I got up to use the bathroom after the same back staff went in, yet again, and someone had clearly been smoking. You could see it in the air and the whole bathroom smelled. As a non-smoker, I walked out smelling so bad that my husband could smell it on me. We then waited another ten minutes for the server to bring us a check. Upon explaining our issues he politely apologized but did not offer to rectify the problem with the lasagna. He also told us the staff was new and he was not aware what was going on in that bathroom. My husband left hungry and quite angry. Needless to say, we will...
