I have waited almost 2 weeks & finally decided to post this after waiting for a resolution, not getting one & for the way I was treated. I want people to be made aware. I have been a customer at Wooley's for over 30+ years & always enjoyed shopping there. I have never had a problem until recently. I went in a few days before Christmas Eve & purchased 3 large frozen octopus. I have been making it for many, many years & we enjoy it. When I went to make them a few days later, I noticed upon opening them there was a slight smell & they just did not look right. Upon trying to put them in the pot, they were falling apart & the heads looked like melted candle wax. Some of the legs were in pieces. They just were not good. Something was wrong. I did simmer them in the pot for about 20 mins. & then took them out, but I was not gonna eat them. I knew they weren't good. I called Woolley's & spoke to the manager, who seemed nice at the time on the phone. He asked what we were going to do & I said I couldn't come back so unfortunately we would be w/out octopus but I would bring it in to show him in a few days. So I refrigerated it in a container. 2 days after Christmas I went & brought it in. He acted completely different in person. I told him there was something wrong because of the smell & it just did not look right. He tells me I overcooked it. I've been making it for years. Why would I do anything different? I've never had a problem. The octopus was bad & he refused to believe me. I showed him my receipt. I even had part of the soggy package label & he had the audacity to tell me that it wasn't even his label. He literally accused me of buying it somewhere else!!! I was totally shocked, I said what do you think this receipt for $129.00 is for??? He wouldn't budge. He said no one else had a problem w/the octopus...just me.. which turned out to be not true because I see there's another review here that somebody else wrote w/the same problem. So he's not an honest person. I told him I would like to be reimbursed or even credited. I would buy different seafood. He kept accusing me of overcooking it. I felt myself getting upset where I thought I was going to cry in front of him. I am not a confrontational person. I even kept my voice low & was off to the corner so as not to alarm any of the customers. So I finally just said for him to dump it out & give me my container please & I left. My kids were told what happened & w/out me knowing, my son spoke to the manager, who told him I cursed him out, which I did not. I am a lady & I do not use that language. My son knows that & told him he was lying because he knows I don't talk like that. As a last attempt my son was able to reach out to the owner & left a message. We wanted him to be aware of what happened & how I was treated. That manager is doing that business such a disservice. We thought we would get some kind of resolution...but sadly no. He chose to believe his manager. So be aware. I will no longer shop there. I lost $129.00 & got nothing. I thought maybe the owner would care about how I was treated but more importantly, the reputation of his business. I truly don't belive his father, the original founder would have handled it this way....very sad. -...
Read moreWe went there for dinner for 2 on last Saturday night without reservations and were seated immediately. Their fish is always fresh, but the way they cook it is very bland. You can tell they haven't hired a trained chef to enhance the flavor of their fish. Broiled tastes like steamed. I had delicious blackened scallops, but the cook did not rinse all the sand off of them. Also, if you sit in the dining room in the back, the echo is deafening, so everyone is shouting at one another. If you sit in the front, it smells of old fish. But Natalie, our waitress was fabulous! She has a warm bubbly personality and knocked herself out to make our entrees exactly what we wanted! Because of her, we will be back. We hope that the owners read our constructive criticism and make a few improvements. Update: since this review we have gone 2 more times, once for lunch and once for dinner. I think they put up a new wood ceiling in the dining room, does not echo so much. I had the salad with blackened shrimp. Shrimp were very large, fresh and flavorful. Our guest had the fried calamieri salad and raved about it. My friend had the fried flounder and loved it. Then we brought a relative with us for dinner. She loved the attentiveness tbe staff demonstrated. I had one glitch. I ordered stuffed lobster. It was about 2 pounds and only $30. The scallop stuffing was outstanding, but when i cut off the tail and bit into and swallowed it, i at first didn't notice that the cooks did not clean the tail, and it was filled with feces. When i complained, the waitress apologized and brought it back to the kitchen. I did eat it afterwards, but now i will worry about hepatitus, but i did have the hep 2 shots many years ago. So make sure you remind the waitress to tell the kitchen to clean the lobster thoroughly. They have also imoroved on decreasing the fishy odor when you enter the restaurant.Another update. I ordered shrimp dinner for take out. It cost $26. The shrimp smelled so bad I couldn't eat it and there were...
Read moreYesterday, I called and placed an order for 10lbs. of fresh fileted fish. When I arrived I noticed a sign for $14.99 per pound in front of the large snow crab legs. I attempted to order 2 claws when the young man quoted they were $25.99 per pound. I said the sign says $14.99. He reached inside the case a pulled out a small claw which was not within my eyesight like the large claws. I stated your supposed to honor the sign. He said he can't. So, I asked to speak with the manager, I believe his name is Rico. They started speaking in Spanish. Then Rico said he can't sell it for that amount while walking away from me. I reiterated he was supposed to honor the sign. He said it was a mistake. Again, I said you're supposed to honor the sign. I attempted to take a picture, but the young man quickly removed the sign. I asked to speak with the owner. Rico said he wasn't there. I asked what was his name and he said John. As I was walking to the counter to pay for my order, Rico spoke to the woman at the register in Spanish, then walked away. She charged me $74.00. I asked her how much was the fish per pound. She said $7.40. Rico walked back over to her and I asked him how much was the fish per pound. He said $6.99 per pound. I said she said it was $7.40 per pound and i wanted to know why there's a difference in price. He said she's new and it's her first day. He made no attempt to correct the bill. I have been patronizing this fish market for about 15 years. At times I would order 20 to 30 lbs. of fish. I never had a bad experience until yesterday. If I wasn't have a small party and pressed for time i would have canceled my order. I am very upset, disheartened and feel undervalued/cheated as a customer.
I will never...
