14 NOV 2023: EIGHT VIOLATIONS from the Livingston County Health Department in October.
We've ordered from Golden House three or four times in the past two or so years, most recently yesterday. I keep giving them another shot, hoping that things will improve, but to no avail.
Yesterday, the sesame chicken was very bland (again) and included a whopping two small pieces of broccoli. The fried rice flavor was just meh as always. The egg roll was good. As has been with all our orders, the portion sizes for the combo meals are SUPER SMALL compared to other local Chinese restaurants for combination meals in the SAME price range. Same price, less food here, and I don't just mean one or two small pieces of chicken.
Side note on Yelp reviews: I notice that "Vincent K" (owner?) loves to respond to negative reviews by telling people to "cook at home", makes unconvincing excuses for the bad experiences that people share, gets snippy when someone mentions the Chinese restaurant across Grand River Ave from his place and is just plain RUDE to anyone who leaves a less than positive review. That's not how you win back customers, Vincent. Instead of arguing or cutting down Yelp reviewers, you should work to address the problems and issues that people are sharing with you. Being sincere, cordial and addressing root causes will go a lot further at winning back patrons versus treating them poorly. Remember, what you post on the Interwebz is forever.
UPDATE: Your response didn't disappoint, "Vincent K". Rude, belligerent, condescending and refusing to own up to the problems. Guess what, sport? We HAVE reached out directly in the past. Did you NOT notice that this was my FIRST review posted online despite trying your restaurant NUMEROUS times in the past couple years? Did you NOT notice that I said we kept coming back in case things improved? Why didn't I call your restaurant instead of posting a negative review? I ALREADY DID! After the our second or third time we ordered from you, I DID call your restaurant to discuss the issues. Clearly, nothing has changed, Vincent - not with the food nor with your poor attitude towards customers. Sad. Truly sad. Changing from my 2 star review to a 1 star review because of your poor treatment of customers online.
Oh ... and the ONLY reason you donated food to the first responders (St Joes).was because your cook went back to Indonesia, you couldn't cook patrons meals in a reasonable amount of time on Christmas Eve ... so they never picked them up! So don't pretend like you just decided to donate a bunch of food out of the goodness of your heart.
"Good luck finding another Chinese restaurant"? I don't need luck. All I have to do is leave the parking lot and drive across Grand River Ave to New China King. They've NEVER treated me as you are doing right now and, IMHO, thier portions are greater for the same price and the quality and FLAVOR of the food is better.
UPDATE #2: You know, Vincent, if you put as much effort into solving the issues reported to you by your customers as you do insulting and degrading people online, you'd be much further ahead. But, I digress.
We both know why you give free meals to local law enforcement, Vincent. Not only is one of my degrees in CJUS, but I was local law enforcement for ~8 years. It's not rocket science or long division, my friend.
Perhaps YOU'RE not aware of MY call, but I know SOMEONE at your restaurant was/is, because I most certainly called and voiced my concerns with whomever you allowed to answer the phone that day.
Finally, if you think the changing flavors of the meals is all you need to do to remedy the variable plethora of complaints that I and (clearly) numerous other people post in reviews of your establishment, you're not paying attention.
Are the small portion sizes for the same $ part of your "family recipe"?
Is the RUDE, ARGUMENTATIVE, INSULTING, CONDESCENDING and BRUTISH manner in which you respond to customers who leave less than positive reviews part of your "family recipe"?
Maybe some day you'll get it,...
Read moreTake a step into my shoes... I’m a hard working, tax paying, hungry individual. I’m a big fan of Chinese food, especially after a 12 hour day at work where i don’t get appreciated enough... (if someone’s hiring that’s reading this, please hit me up.) but anyways back to the review. Me and my lovely fiancé got home around the Same time, we’re both hungry. What do we do? Go for Chinese! You can never go wrong with Chinese food. Now keep in mind we are new to the area so we haven’t tried a lot of these restaurants out yet. Well, we decided to call in a carry out, i got the General Tso’s chicken with chicken fried rice, and my lovely fiancé got the sweet and sour chicken W/ a large order of egg drop soup. We finally get home, our puppies greet us, my kid hugs me, and we finally sit down at the table like a proud American family that we are. I’m ready to dig in... well... it was bland. All of it was just bland, the chicken was almost near rubber consistency, the rice didn’t have any chicken in it, and the egg drop soup just tasted like chicken broth from Meijer. I’m utterly disappointed in the service i got as well including the woman at the front desk ignoring me for almost 5 minutes then told me the total. Honestly I am just scared to go back to this place (not like i will anytime soon), I’m currently still hungry while writing this because i don’t want to finish the food I have previously bought approximately 15 minutes ago. Yeah if you’re reading this, i was just in there and you know who i...
Read moreDelightful experience. Second time in weeks that I've Patron. Hearty portions very friendly staff. Walked in made my order 15 minutes later I was on my way. Most definitely will be back. My granddaughter loves their chicken fried rice as do I I always get an extra. Large 1. I've had Chinese from around different places in the community here in Howell but this Golden House Chinese restaurant is by far the best in town I always get General Tao's chicken cuz that's my favorite my granddaughter always gets the sweet and sour chicken although she never uses the sweet and sour sauce but that's okay. I do my very best to try to leave reviews good or bad or indifferent. I have never dined in. But it looks like a quaint little place for a quiet dinner. Definitely going to have to come when they reopen these restaurants so we can try the dining experience I just wish I could get some tea I love the tea. Anyways if you're looking for Chinese this is the spot hey Bub huge menu with very reasonable prices I always think but I'm going to overpay and it always seems like I...
