Would love to give a 5 star review to this restaurant because their food deserves it. The food is top notch and they have very creative and delicious takes on some of their dishes. Exactly what we ordered off the specials menu, this is where that 5th star disappeared. So we sit down at these beautiful obviously locally crafted tables (that are so big you can't hardly talk to your tablemates across the table and truth just a bit too tall making them a little uncomfortable) and we are given the menus, specifically the special menu.. The specials included a "Caleb dog" and a "Piggy Back Sandwich" and that's ALL the menu says. We are always looking for something new and different so we ask the waitress what these two specials were and she told us, followed by an "I think". What she described sounded good so we ordered one of each. She returned a few minutes later to tell us she was wrong and the sandwich included slaw and pickle too and the dog was completely different that she had said. Why would they not put a description of what these items are in the menu?? And if no description why wouldn't they train the staff to be able to answer the question??
Also, menus had a couple items that "we don't serve any more". Specifically corn on the cob, which was ordered by our 10 year old, he was disappointed when he heard it wasn't available any longer.
Those things aside the food was delicious, these two items were maybe a bit overly complex, but none the less pretty good.
We will be back to try the staples like the pulled pork, we are betting this is where the winner is.
Oh and order the Mac n Cheese, It's to die for. The jalapeno grits are OK but if put side by side with JDs, JDs takes the win and few victory laps.
Some of the other reviews mention the serving sizes looking small due to presentation, this is true. However the serving sizes are good but a little better presentation would go...
Read moreThis was our first time here, but it definitely will not be our last! We found this place by searching Google maps for BBQ near us and narrowing it down by what looked and sounded good on their menus and by the reviews left by other customers.
There were several items that looked and sounded great that we were wanting to try, and they did not disappoint!
I tried the smoked bologna burger (I added cheese) with the smoked Mac and cheese and squash casserole. It was all fresh and had great flavor and I would order it all again.
The other person in my party ordered the brisket and pulled pork platter with slaw, cowboy beans, and pepper jack macbites. We liked the brisket better than the pulled pork, although there was nothing wrong with the pulled pork, it was just okay. The brisket was wonderful, juicy, and full of flavor! You didn't even need sauce because it tasted so good! We were pleased with the sides as well as they tasted fresh and were full of flavor.
The service was friendly and fast and the decor was great as well. We loved the homemade burned wood tables and benches they had throughout the restaurant, the table we sat at could have easily sat 5 people on each bench.
We had never heard of this place before, and I don't know if we would have ever stumbled on it without a Google search, but I'm glad we did find it and I can't wait to go back and try more items from their menu!
I attached a photo of the smoked bologna burger with smoked mac and cheese and squash casserole, we didn't get a picture of the brisket and pulled...
Read moreThis is such a gem in our little community. I'm so glad my husband and I popped in for dinner. The BBQ (and I've eaten a lot of BBQ) is beyond yummy. They know their "Butts" and it shows. The meat is deliciously smoked, any meat. We've had chicken from other BBQ places locally, and it's not smoked. This team takes BBQ seriously, this isn't a hobby. I ordered the BBQ Nachos, and they remind me of my favorite Baseball Nachos. Lots of pulled pork, with burnt ends mixed in, and I didn't need the sauce. It was very tasty. My husband ordered the chicken quarters, and I will say that he enjoyed that thoroughly. I got a taste of the chicken, and it was well smoked- even had the smoke ring on it, and the BBQ sauce is bold. And I like bold. They have rotating sides, and regular sides, and they have 4 desserts to choose from- we got both the banana puddings (they have a regular one, and then a Nutter Butter one) and they were both very tasty. *I would suggest adding more vanilla to the pudding mix though, bump up the flavor! Add some cream cheese!
But if you are looking for a BBQ that is serious, this would be the place! Thank you to the restaurant team for bringing this little gem to our community, and thank you to the staff that also have other responsibilities in the Community. We will...
