As a local business owner I had to think long and hard about leaving this review, but my experience at Vitale’s tonight was inexcusable. This was my first time at this location and most likely my last. The no reservation rule is a huge inconvenience. Who wants a 14 person party waiting in the lobby for over an hour in the way of take out orders and other parties coming in? A fee to bring my own cake in?! This restaurant doesn’t serve birthday cake. A large group is here to celebrate, eat, and drink. Our tab should be high enough to not charge a fee to bring in an outside cake. The waitress asked me to sign a form stating I would pay the fee and asked for it up front before we even ordered!?! This is absurd!! Then when it came time to eat the cake the waitress said she would bring me a knife. I told her I could cut it with the knife I did not used yet.... She came back and told me it was a liability if we cut it and had to have the kitchen cut it. So.. it’s not a liability to use that knife to cut my dinner, but it is to cut the cake? I have several food allergies so I asked what the chicken is marinated in. The waitress asked the kitchen and they said they could not tell me because it was a secret. Excuse me!?! Just give me plain chicken without anything on it. They could not do this. The entire experience was a joke. Because they do not take reservations and the extremely slow service we were there a total of 3.5 hours. The food was not horrible, but the service is extremely subpar. Read moreWe went there on Friday night 3/14/25. First it started off by us waiting for a table for about 20 minutes when they told us it would be just a few minutes. It started off with good service, we got our drinks right away and appetizer. We ordered our food at 7:20 and by 8:20 we were asking where our food was because it should not have take. An hour to get our food because the restaurant at that point was pretty much empty and people who came in after us and ordered had already received their food. Once we got our food my moms meal was cold and wrong, my food was lukewarm, my son’s food looked like it had sat under a warmer for the whole day, my husband and son in law ordered steaks and they were to be medium and came out well done and they also it was also cold. All of our food was cold. They manager did try to make it right with us and took the steaks off the bill and gave them a free pizza, then they had only taken 2 other meals off the bill but they charge you for refills of pop. One the waitress never asked if we wanted refills, she just brought them out. I have never been charged at a restaurant for refill of pop. This was ridiculous and we will never be back to this location ever again. It was horrible, plus when we were trying to find our waitress she was no where to be found. She never came back to our table after we got our food and told her that everything was cold and what was wrong, then it was the manager that was dealing with all of us. Read moreI would not recommend Vitale’s of Hudsonville for any wedding or event. They arrived late and had to be tracked down by my wedding planner. Once they finally showed up, they had pre-poured beers on a 95° day, leaving guests with warm, flat drinks. When questioned, they blamed the venue’s electrical system, even though the venue confirmed everything was working properly.
We had a kid-free event except for our own children, yet they were only offered two non-alcoholic drinks during cocktail hour—despite plenty of options being available. When we asked about it, the staff said the kids “never asked for anything else,” which was dismissive and unprofessional.
After the wedding, I reached out to the vendor directly to share my concerns. Their initial response was to offer a $200 gift card, which felt inadequate given the circumstances. Only after I pushed back and explained why that was unacceptable did they ask what resolution I wanted. I requested a full refund for the bar service which was agreed upon and ultimately received $300 when it should have been closer to $1,400.
Overall, their lack of preparation, accountability, and professionalism made them one of the most disappointing...
