317 is a Hudsonville coffee shop through and through. I'm not saying it's bad. It's okay. This is more of a Jesus shop featuring coffee.
First: the coffee. Our drinks were a Cafe Miel and a Chai Latte. Drinks were average. I watched our barista follow a list to make it. Employee are high school aged girls, so not exactly knowledgeable baristas. Granted, it's an acceptable result, but the product is unexceptional. I don't think anybody is gonna get their mind blown with how good the coffee is. I didn't even finish my Chai, but I didn't throw it away either.
Second: the atmosphere. The inside is cozy, which is to say it's pretty small. Your chair back will be touching another chair back if it's even half full. You'll hear other's conversations. There's lots of wall decorations with painted on words. Shabby chic style chairs, with cute pairs sourced at garage sales or FB marketplace. Tall industrial ceiling. It's bright and comfy. Internet is fast and secure. It's pretty heavy on the Jesus theme, so if Jesus ain't your jam you'll feel out of place here.
Third: menu, service, price, and extras. Service was great, prompt and with a smiling face. You'll get attention here, don't worry about that factor. Menu is standard but scattered: like cookies and cupcakes but unlabeled. Bagels and cream cheese but not listed what kinds. Avocado toast is on the menu unironically. Menu needs specificity and focus. There's some T-shirts available with either Coffee-y things or Jesus-y things or both. There is a "mission of the month" donation that they asked if we'd round up our bill to the next dollar and donate the remainder to. Prices are higher than the quality of the product you recieve. I would rate the coffee a bit higher if the price reflected the quality, but 5 bucks is the same price as a trained barista at a downtown joint with prime ingredients.
Long story short, Madcap it ain't. There's heart here, but it's not aimed at great coffee, it's aimed at service and Jesus. Tell your mom to come here with her church group and...
Read moreI love this place . I love what it stands for. The people are friendly tge atmosphere relaxing inviting. However the coffee just isn't hot I've been here at 3 times always the same . Warm coffee am I the only one who likes Hot Coffee? The bagels are ok just store bought nothing special. The service is rather slow and they are well staffed and not busy. I would love to be able to come here more often please 🙏 could yiu make your coffee hot? I csn be patient about the slow paced service . So maybe your asking What is hot coffee ? We'll it's when you get the coffee in your hands and take that first wonderful sip and only a sip. You shouldn't be able to drink it right down Luke warm cofee is so disappointing. But I can't give a place like this a bad rating I love this place but I guess I may have to go elsewhere. I'll give it a couple more chances because the people and atmosphere are so nice...
Read moreI stopped for a cup of coffee to go. Their light roast is good. The place was hopping at Saturday around noon. I don't think I could have found an open seat if I wanted one. Obviously something good is going on here.
My only mild complaint is that even though several baristas were waiting for something to do, only one person was being served at a time.
You will be asked if you want to round up your purchase to support missions. I was happy to do so, but I would have liked to have asked some questions about how it was being used specifically. I didn't want to hold up the...
