Update: We've been back to this restaurant a few times with extended family and a couple of times following that occasion. Ever since the owner is no longer working shifts to fill in the labor shortage, the service has drastically changed. So have the prices. Let's put it this way-- after a few visits, $23 for two shrimp tacos is absurd... especially since it's basically cabbage and shrimp in a tortilla. I understand inflation, of course, but in this case, why gouge when we're all feeling it? Competitors in the area do not come close to these price points for basically the same things. Anyway combine the outrageous prices with less than acceptable service on three consecutive occasions, I'll go somewhere else. Lost a few stars 🌟 Sorry guys.

Original review:

Large property that captures the flavor of Mexico-- and delivers it. The food was great (all sodium restrictions aside because, well, it's Mexican food) Excellent and diverse menu choices. You can tell a great Mexican restaurant often from their salsa... excellent to the point of blowing my diet with the warm chips. (Oh the salt but it goes with the territory) Great seafood entrees. I ordered the shrimp with a light sauce that included mushrooms and olives, which added an interesting twist to the usual. It was perfect except well, too much salt. My son had a two combo plate of a shredded beef taco and chili relleno... good Lord. Looked and smelled delicious and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Triple bypass on a plate. I don't do dairy or meat other than fish so I lived vicariously through that plate of what would be bad news for me if I indulged. Both entrées were delicious. I did indulge in their jalapeño skinny margarita. Fresh lime, but too sweet (no salt of course) My son enjoyed that gorgeous fat slice if cheesecake.

Few negatives but I felt sad to discover our server was actually one of the owners of the restaurant who needed to fill in thanks to labor shortages. He was kind, attentive and the food turnaround was very fast.

Support your locals and go here rather than some chain. This is good Mexican food, hospitality and an experience that will certainly...

Hands down the worst "Mexican" food I've ever had in California. Exaggerating? Absolutely not... Let's dive in!!! Horchata had a 2:1 cinnamon to liquid ratio SPICY! Salsa was flavorless, chips were... dare I say this, too crunchy?! How? Corn meal? Queso dip was unable to be eaten... cheese was ONE giant cyst ball in a bowl of weird soup... "steak" tasted like it came out of a can... never had canned steak until today, and spit it right back onto the plate... told the waiter how it tasted, and he said that "people like it. ".... are you sure they don't feed it to their pets? My dog likes canned meat... fair ask... The cheese enchilada had mole sauce w/ cinnamon? The hell kinda red cheese enchilada is this... and how... HOW is it STILL 97% flavorless? Shrimp cocktail was okay... no hot sauce to doctor to liking, but the avocado was fresh and shrimp was fresh, but not deveined adequately... I'm not a fan of grainy shrimp poop, but I'm sure "people like it"

Hostess was not friendly... server wasn't around enough to complete any request...

Congrats on being open! I'd rather...

Our family has been going to La Capilla in HB for over 15 years, and we always enjoyed our experience there. My mom and I went there late this afternoon and what a HUGE disappointment! The food was HORRIBLE! Even the guacamole was terrible. It tasted like the frozen guacamole you buy from a store with a few tomatoes and onions thrown in. The beef and pork were dry and tasteless, and the beans (which used to be my favorite) had a weird, artificial flavor. Besides the horrible food, it cost $87.00 (before tip) for two dinners and two margaritas. Oh, the margaritas tasted like sweet and sour with water. We will be finding another favorite Mexican restaurant. So disappointed! Our meals were a taco and chili relleno with beans and rice and the rancheros taquitos with beans and rice, one side taco and 2 regular margaritas. That comes to over $40 per person! Seriously??? Seems like so many places now are cutting back on quality while still...

1st time. The food was tasty. Ordered the fajitas combo with steak, chicken, and shrimp. It was all tossed together. Arrived sizzling and smokey as it should be but was surprised to see it all tossed together. Immediately, all I saw was the shrimp, onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. After digging around, we found the meat in small pieces. I get it, food costs are up but that was aaaaalot of onions. Blood Orange margaritas were so good and strong, tortillas soup was a cup, and it was good. Salad was super fresh and crisp. By the taste and consistency of the flan, I would say it's not made in-house, not sure. Beans and rice are good! Guacamole tastes of cumin, lots of it. Chips and salsa were also very good and fresh. Overall, it was a good tasting meal for our 1st time. We enjoyed it, and got full of onions...lol jk 😜

Large restaurant with good food. We tried this with friends last night and everyone had a good meal (except the tortilla soup). I had the combo plate of single chicken taco with rice and beans. Great rice and beans and taco was cruncy and full of toppings. Also pictured is chicken chimichanga. Not totally what we expected but still good. Though this would be much less like a burrito and be smaller and deep fried. Came qith sour cream and guac. Guacamole was excellent. I would order the guac for the chips next time. Chips and salsa foe the table is always nice. But the salsa was pretty spicy for me. Large place made hanging out with our group of 9 easy. Servers were great. Attentive and remeberes things well. Kinda pricy but not outrageous. Everything is pricey these days. I would recommend it.
