So, I'm from back East where pizza is a hot topic of debate and my family owns a pizza place. You can imagine that I am semi-skeptical of any pizza place I haven't tried before, but I try to go in with an open mind.
This place is good! We got a large pepperoni and meatball sicilian style pizza and an order of parmesan twists (on the house! From a coupon they sent me when I moved in... oh yeah, did I mention I can also walk to this place? Big bonus!) Now, I cook like crazy... spaghetti sauce and meatballs being two of the favorites repeatedly asked for at my house, so it is always interesting to see the comparison. However, this pizza was definitely a good choice! I like that the pizza is square like it's supposed to be when pizza is "sicilian". Sometimes people market a sicilian pizza and you get something round and pie cut. Anyway, this was what it was supposed to be and that alone made me happy.
The pizza is definitely different from what I'm used to. The ingredients are a lot lighter in taste overall, but that's not a bad thing. The sauce is a light red sauce with chunks of tomatoes. Not too many spices. The cheese is decent quality (you can tell by how it cooks!). Pepperoni wasn't very greasy and the meatballs were made really well (full of spices and flavor!). The large fed myself, my hubby and our son. And we had leftovers (totally still good after re-heating!)
The parmesan twists were good for what they are. Dough covered in butter and parmesan. They came with ranch and marinara.
I'd like to try some other ingredient combinations, as they have many different things to choose from. They also serve a limited selection of wine and beer. You can get old school looking milk jugs of beer, which is pretty cool.
The pizza place is actually open air too, which is great because it allows you to "eat outside"** without being outside, as well as keeps the temp regulated since it can get super hot in pizza joints.
** If you get alcohol, you have to technically be inside, but you can get as close to the lease line as possible, which is totally fine!
The staff is also very friendly and laid back (always a plus!!)
Overall, I'd give Perry's a solid 4 stars. It was well received on behalf of my...
Read moreI commended our waitress and demonstrated generosity towards her. However, she was not friendly and displayed judgmental facial expressions. In addition, she ignored us when I was calling for service. I also requested additional sugar from her, as the initial packet the waitress brought contained only two packets, and when she provided the sugar, she again selfishly only brought two packets, accompanied by a hateful facial expression with an air of superiority and her heavy presence of arrogance. It seemed she regarded herself as superior to us. Furthermore, some individuals prefer their sweet tea to be exceptionally sweet, and since the tea was unsweetened, I had to add sugar to it. In contrast, the other waitresses were much more benevolent and happy to welcome us and bid us farewell with a warm acknowledgement of our presence.
I wish I could have caught the name of our waitress to make it easier to write this review. However, I can provide a date and approximation of timing. I was here on Friday, August 22, 2025 at approximately 4:00 pm and departed at approximately 5:00 pm.
We still left 15 percent tip even though she acted self-entitled as if she deserved more with her unprofessional and lack of customer...
Read moreWe used to visit the one located in the Del Amo Fashion Square Mall in Torrance, CA. As you would appoach it, the delicious fragrance of their bread yeast dough, was irresistible!
At this location (21411 Brookhurst St., HB, CA) we found the service to be friendly and attentive. We ordered the pan pizza with half pepperoni and half pepperoni with mushrooms. Although it was very good; it still was missing some of the stronger delicious bread yeast dough flavor, which really distinguished Perry's Pizza from other pizza restaurants back in the 70's and 80's. I don't understand why they have changed their original delicious dough recipe. Their current pan pizza dough recipe is good, but definitely a weaker offering than the original recipe was. Despite this weakness, this restaurant comes closer to the original flavor quality, than the other Perry's Pizza in Garden Grove, that...
