Surf Dog's Sports Grill — Restaurant in Huntington Beach

Nice clean bar. I won't call it a dive bar because its also a restaurant....I think? At least I saw food being severed while I was there. They have a good selection of beers on tap and the bartender was very knowledgeable in drink mixology. She quickly made my girlfriends drink ( blue Hawaiian ) very strong but with lots of flavor. She loved it, and she is not one for the taste of alcohol of any kind. I had an 805 on tap. I did notice they have PBR on tap and something called blue hammer: crab smash (I think it was called that, not entirely sure of the name?). They also had several other beers on tap, that I can't recall. They have 2 pool tables, and some dart boards. And for the 2 times we have gone here, (both times on Saturday nights btw) they have local bands playing. The first time we went it was a.... punk band? They sounded punk and were dressed kinda the part. Then our most recent visit it was a 70's classic rock cover-ish band. They played some classics and then had a few songs of their own. They seemed to be having fun playing their music so it was entertaining. Surf dog's is off Springdale and Warner, in the same parking lot as 24 hour fitness. Give it a go if you're in the area. I certainly enjoyed myself in its cozy beach themed setting.

I've been going there for quite a while. The bloody Marys are great, though over priced as are all of the drinks. The waitresses are exceptional. The owner favors certain fans over others, and limits the screens to favor some. The food bis "so so". I expect to pay a premium at a sports bar for drinks and food. Today, I examined my bill closely and saw a separate charge for a mixer (soda water @ 25 cents). When ordering a double, the soda water charge was doubled. I've never seen that before. In addition to that BS, there's an extra 2 plus % charge for paying with a credit card. In addition to high prices, this is being NICKLED & DIMED!!! This is insulting.

I assume that few bother to examine the charges, and I didn't until today (Opening day of the football season 9/7/25). It's obvious from the state of the place,(the men's room is disgusting) that the overhead is minimal.

This is unfortunate, since the waitresses are so nice and work so hard.

It's time to search out better...

Stopped in at 1:30 on a Wednesday afternoon to have a quick drink and a snack to kill a bit of time before an appointment. We were the only ones in the place. Heavy rock music was very loud so we asked the waitress to turn it down some. No problem she said but if someone puts money in the Jukebox then she can't control that. It was okay but then two guys come in to sit at the bar and apparently put money to listen to heavy rock from their youth in the 70s and 80s at wide open volume. What can we do when they are paying the Jukebox.

Waitress comes by and says how are you doing. I say okay but it was still too loud but it's no problem, I just won't come back.

Btw, $4 for a small order of fries that were just so so and no seasoning, is ridiculous. Oh, I guess we're paying for the 80s heavy Rock 'background' concert.

My mistake, apparently that's what this place is about. But not...
