Rio Grande — Restaurant in Huntington

These reviews are weird, and I can't help but wonder if it's because the reviewers haven't had a lot of Mexican food. I've traveled the world and I've had Mexican food at a lot of places, and to describe the food here as "Americanized" is so off-base that it's confounding. This is authentic Mexican food, and it's delicious.

My partner and I have kind of made this "our place" because it's constantly empty. We've been perhaps 6 times in 3 months, and with the exception of one time we were the only people there at dinner time.

He enjoys the fajitas, whereas I am a big fan of their tacos a'la carte. 3 for $5 isn't bad, you'd pay the same at taco bell but these are authentic street tacos. So delicious.

The reason for the 3 stars is because the decor, atmosphere and staff are really kind of a bummer. The place is done up in dollar store crepe paper decorations that look like they're leftover from a ghetto quinceañera. The outside (as you will see from the photo I've uploaded) looks almost like a desolate warehouse. It reminds me of the place the women went to in Bridesmaids.

The worst part unfortunately is that the staff is ALWAYS unwelcoming and unfriendly. They're aren't mean or openly hostile, but they NEVER smile and always seem put off or irritated that we're even there. If the food wasn't so damned good we probably would stop going. Havn't eaten here in a good while. Actually forgot that its here. The curb appeal is non-existant and looks closed. Once you get passed the closed look and enter its actually very authentic and cozy. Theres Mexican theme everywhere including paintings and piñatas. I didnt see a bar but there was booths and tables. The food was a little above good but not good enough for me to want to come back. The staff was friendly but not consistant, my friend literally went and refilled his own drink. Again our server was great and offered bday ice cream just there shouldve been more waiters. Also i guess they have no backroom for overstock cause theres boxes of alcohol everywhere. Even though It wouldnt be in my top 3 Mexican in the area I'd still recommend for non-expensive and authentic...

I love this restaurant I absolutely do but there’s this one waiter that’s getting on my nerves… he asks personal questions that a waiter shouldn’t ask. I once went there with my mom and stepdad, he literally asked who my stepdad was and when my mom said he was her husband his expression changed drastically!! We found out he likes my mom and so that’s why he offers free stuff like drinks. Me and my mom went there yesterday and he asked, for the second time if I was my moms daughter… now my mom feels uncomfortable going there because OF HIM!!!!! PLEASE do something about this!
