We were really looking forward to trying Amerigo. Tonight was our first time, and we were a bit disappointed. Two members of our party ordered cocktails, and the waiter brought one but had no recollection of the other one being ordered, even though he acknowledged the order at the time it was made. Similarly, two members of our party ordered the same entree, and he suggested the green beans be replaced with sauteed spinach; both parties agreed to his recommendation. One plate was brought out correctly, with spinach, and the other plate was brought out incorrectly, with green beans. No big deal, kitchens make mistakes, so when he came to check on our plates, we pointed the mistake out. He had no recollection of the second person substituting the side item, even though he had, again, acknowledged it at the time. He actually made it seem like he thought we were crazy. Next, an assistant came around and asked if anybody would like freshly grated parmesan; I said yes please, and she said she would be right back. She returned very quickly with a metal container that kind of looked like a coffee creamer. She opened the lid, took a teaspoon of what looked like Kraft parmesan cheese out of the green plastic bottle at the grocery store, sprinkled that onto my pasta, and then walked away. The four of us literally laughed out loud and joked at how it seemed like we were on Candid Camera. It made us really question the quality of this restaurant. I noticed at the same time that the tables in the middle had tablecloths, but our booth was bare. I felt like we missed out, as we wanted a nice dining experience, and a nice white tablecloth goes a long way. Anyway, the ribeye was cooked to perfection, but the taste just was not there. The green sauce on top was tasteless. The mashed potatoes were nothing special. Would not order either of those again. The salmon was good; the vegetables that went along with it were nothing special. The pasta pomodoro had an excellent flavor and I would definitely order this again. We had told our waiter that we were celebrating a special birthday, and we were a bit surprised the birthday girl didn't get a little something like they do at Char. When we celebrate birthdays at Char, the servers bring out a dessert with a candle, which is always appreciated. At Amerigo, we just got the check. Lastly, I can't complete this review without mentioning the screaming little boy at the table next to us, and the parents who LET him scream throughout their entire meal. Also, the Amerigo dress is listed as "business casual" on their website, and of course people show up in denim shorts and t-shirts, but there was a young woman there with her parents who had little more than a bikini top on. Amerigo is supposed to be a classy place, but it definitely wasn't. We won't rush back, but will give it another try because it certainly has a lot of potential to be a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was our first trip to Amerigo, a new Italian restaurant in Huntsville. It is related to Char Restaurant, another quality restaurant located here.
Amerigo was very good. The service was outstanding. The teamwork of people working together was impressive. No one hesitated to take away dishes, deliver an order as soon as it was ready or bring more iced tea to the table. Our server, Chris, did an excellent job but with everyone working together as they did, everything went very smoothly.
There is a luncheon menu with different specials each day. My dining companion planned on having a vegetarian lasagna which was the daily special. We were having a lunch at 1 PM or so and it was already sold out so it was a popular dish.
The luncheon specials are less expensive and smaller servingsāboth qualities we appreciate at lunch.
I had spaghetti and a meatball accompanied by a house salad (choice of Caesar salad or mixed greens). There was one huge meatball on top of the pasta (see photo). The sauce was delicious, the meatball was flavorful and the pasta was cooked perfectly. It was a smaller portion so I left full without being comfortable which can happen with a large platter of spaghetti.
My dining companion opted for the veal picatta. It was very good. It seemed salty but there were a lot of capers on it and they are a salty addition.
The bread was very fresh and included olive oil with a smattering of peppers which provide a good flavor.
We usually pass on dessert. On this instance, we decided to split the Tiramisu. lt had good flavor and more than enough for two people to split. I am more used to the dish being very moist with a rum flavor. In this instance, there was a cake and included Kahlua and chocolate. It was very tasty. The cake was a little dry and probably would have benefitted from more moisture from rum or the Kahlua.
There is an extensive wine list and there is a very good selection of wines by the glass or by the bottle.
The atmosphere is relaxing and pleasant. The prices are reasonable and the food is excellent.
Amerigo is definitely worth a visit for those with a craving for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWow! Really hate that I took so long to visit because I tried Amerigo for lunch a few weeks ago and really couldn't have had a much better time. I'm reticent to give 5 stars on a first visit, but I really have 0 complaints, so...5 it is.
I got done working at an event at a nearby school right around lunch time. I had a long afternoon ahead of me and wanted to eat a big lunch so I wouldn't be hungry for dinner. Amerigo has daily lunch specials and their special on Friday seemed particularly enticing -- and luckily for me, it was a Friday! I headed on over.
I was worried I'd be a little underdressed, but I didn't feel too out of place in my t-shirt and shorts. It's definitely a nicer restaurant but at least at lunch time I don't feel like anyone was sneering at me, lol. The hostess was pleasant and seemed genuinely happy to chat with me. All of the staff were lovely; my waitress was attentive and cheerful and managed her visits to my table with perfect timing.
The restaurant is pretty and, as I mentioned, slightly upscale. A visit to the lady's bathroom while I waited on my meal revealed it to be spotless.
For my meal, I had the Friday lunch special, Farmstead chicken, which consist of a grilled chicken breast, angel hair pasta with mozzarella and a bacon cream sauce, and a veggie medley. A complementary few hunks of bread and olive oil were also served.
Everything was absolutely delicious! The chicken was some of the best-cooked chicken I've had in a while -- succulent, tender, juicy. The pasta and cream sauce was rich, decadent, and delicious but didn't absolutely tear up my gut, lol. The veggies were bright and still had some snap. And the bread was delightful, too!
I look forward to coming back very soon to try dinner or have a lunch date with friends or family. They have carbonara "done right" as I say (i.e., /without/ fettuccine alfredo on it, lol) so I can't wait to try it -- I hope it meets expectations! If not, I'll happily continue visiting on Fridays for more delicious farmstead chicken. Thanks so...
