The açaí bowl you've (I've) been waiting for is finally here!!

Back as a grad student at UA, I had an açaí bowl place I was obsessed with: Frutta Bowls. It was pretty much the only thing I missed about Tuscaloosa after moving back (sorry, not sorry). Try as I might, I couldn't find a place in Huntsville that made anything close to FB. The açaí would be too icy, the topping ratio would be way off, the bowl would be too sweet or not sweet enough...the list goes on.

But! City Bowls has finally remedied that with some fruit bowls that live up to my expectations.

They make acai, pitaya, and green bowls here. The one time I went inside it looked like they also had a small, simple coffee menu, too. The topping selections are wide and varied and there is a great selection of pre-built bowls, or you can build your own. Three different sizes of bowls await you, from the snack-sized 8 oz to the hearty meal sized 16 oz.

The inside is clean, if maybe still a little bare-feeling. They have a drive-through window, too, which I LOVE, though since every bowl is made with fresh-cut fruit, don't expect to blast in and out in less than 5 minutes. Your patience will be rewarded! They don't have exact calorie information available but they do give some broad details (e.g. less than 600, etc.), which is appreciated.

My two favorite bowls so far are the powerhouse bowl and the island bowl. The powerhouse comes with acai, granola, blueberries, strawberries, bananas, and peanut butter and Nutella drizzle, while the island bowl is made with pitaya, granola, kiwi, strawberries, and pineapple, with coconut flakes, honey, and bee pollen on top. They are both delicious, plenty filling, feel healthy, and with a balanced amount of sweetness, despite no added sugars! The ratio of toppings to base is close to perfect and the base has never been icy or gritty.

No fifth star quite yet just because service on 2/3 visits so far has been a little bit curt. Not in a horrifically rude or mean way, just in like a "mostly teenage staff" kind of way, lol. I definitely intend to continue returning because I can never get enough fruit bowls, so if quality continues to be exceptional and/or as service gets a little friendlier I'll move up to a fifth star. The food is more than deserving of a try if fruit bowls...

Update 10/7/24 Had to Come Back To See Dave and the Awesome Crew at City Bowls in South Huntsville. Yeah , It’s Definitely a Longer Drive for me to get here but it’s still Totally Worth-it ! They have the Best Açaí Bowls Hands Down for Sure. Thanks Guys and Gals At City Bowls!!! Update 8/21/24 These Açaí Bowls are So Delicious and Refreshing!

So Good Every Time! My Family and I have been every week since the first time we found out about it a couple of months ago. They make it perfect for us every time! We like ordering it online though the City Bowls website. It’s so easy to customize our orders and they are ready as soon as we arrive. You can even put in special notes at the bottom of each item you select before adding it into your shopping cart and they will do their best job to make sure every item you order is just right. That is important to my family because we like to put the ingredients in the bowl in a certain order on a couple of the items we order. The Manager of the location was working the last time I was in there and they were very busy. I think his name was Dave. His up beat attitude and attention to detail was very noticeable and I see why we get Great service from everyone that works there! •• So Glad I drove a little further to try the Açai Bowl ! it was So Good and Fresh. The Açai was just the right consistency and flavor. Reminded me of the Açai bowls That I enjoy so much when I visit St.Petersberg Florida. The Freshness of all the ingredients is amazing! I have been several times since first trying City Bowls and the Quality, Service, and Cleanliness is a A+. I have also placed online orders and can choose the time I pick them up. They even have a Drive Through if I don’t feel like running inside. The Staff are so nice and they even took time to draw a cute picture on the lid of my daughter’s O.G. Açai Bowl (which she Absolutely loved). I had the chance to talk to one of the managers this past visit and could tell right away that this was why I had such great service the previous times over the last few weeks.He definitely leads by example and it shows because everyone that has taken care of my order so far has done a great job and took pride in providing a Great meal for me and my family. I can’t wait to order again....

Greeted walking in the door by very friendly young folks. They were informative and patient. Briefly met the owner who was engaging and super nice. Everyone there was so pleasant and genuine. Got the Rocket City and Powerhouse bowls which were very similar. Fresh and ripe fruit, well assembled, great presentation. Delicious.

Took them straight home and shared them with my better half. We enjoyed both of them a lot. This will be our new twice per week spot and I'm going to tell everyone!

This is exactly the kind of thing Huntsville needs more of. This is the kind of thing I crave for breakfast. Not the grease.
