Being our 1st time here, i didn't think they were open. We entered at 5:15pm on a Monday evening, the place was empty. There was a young lady behind a counter on her phone, she gave us a glance and looked back down to her phone. We walked up to the bar area, sat on a stool and looked around. Waited a couple minutes and nobody greeted us, nor bothered to even acknowledge us. The gal got done with her phone then walked over with a couple menus. We told her there would be 4 more coming shortly, if we could wait for them. She turned stood and walked away. She never asked if we wanted to order drinks, unbeknownst to us you had to go get a wrist band for beers (We didn't know that at the time, she could've explained that and sold a couple pints of beer in that time we waited).
Or group arrived for dinner, she sat us at a table handed out menus and left. Back to her area and on her phone. We sat and waited, once again didn't know the process as she never explained. She on her phone, we're all thirsty and ready to order, she's on her phone. We then watch another couple come in that had obviously been here before, go up and order at the counter. So that's what we did, if we had only been told that 10 minutes earlier.
We ordered food and then figured out the beer bracelet without much help from the employee. She did bring our food, it was fine, nothing great. Never once did she come ask how everything was because, guess what, she was on her phone. Zero effort on her part to welcome anyone sell product or check on things to make sure the guests are enjoying themselves. If I was a supervisor or owner, they're would be a long discussion with her about being there to work and not be on her phone. There was income lost to this business because she made no effort to promote their business...
Read moreGreat Idea, Poor Execution. My wife and I decided to give Hops N Guac a try on Sunday morning around 1130. We get to the register and the gentleman needed to complete his messaging on his cellphone before he was able to take our order. We ordered some Three Taco Combos and decided to try out the Beer Magical Wristband. We received our number, found a table and were off to the beer taps. 18 taps on the main wall were in varying states of non function ranging from sad faces, Coming Soon, and screens with a number panel. We started off with the smaller glasses to try a little bit of everything, but I would recommend not following that path. You pay by the ounce, and using the smaller glasses gets you nothing but head in a cup, grab a large glass and get yourself a proper pour. The food showed up and for being a scratch kitchen, none of this was hot food. The rice and beans were lukewarm at best and not seasoned. The meats within the tacos were barely warm, but we pushed through. The tacos in the picture from top to bottom were Chorizo, Ninja Pig and Carnitas. Right off the bat, the toppings on the chorizo were incorrect based on your website. My wife got a chorizo taco as well but was topped different from mine and the menu with the Pastor topping. Found the hidden room with 5 taps, only to find 5 more taps that weren't operational. When your secret room is mentioned within the first paragraph of your website, it may want to take precedence as being functional. The location is great, the ambiance of the restaurant is pleasant but you guys need to keep up with the tapwall and keep the food hot. With being in the same building as Straight to Ale you've gotta step the game up. We'll give it a few months and try it again, maybe it's just opening...
Read moreThis was a great place to try. The food was very good and fresh, and they have some affordable drink specials on Fridays. The beer wall is also something we've only seen one other time, and it's great to have a big selection and not have to bother staff for refills. They also have an extensive tequila selection and we enjoyed trying a few varieties to learn more what we like (they were all tasty). I enjoyed the beans a lot but found the rice a little bland which is too bad because it looked like it had a lot going on in it.
We did have some tacos get mixed up, unfortunately we didn't look at them closely before diving in and the super spicy chicken was inhaled by someone who normally wouldn't eat it before they realized that something was terribly wrong with the heat level.
Since my visit someone else posted the actual updated menu, but that was not available when I was planning our visit and I went off their website. Those prices are COMPLETELY out of date. I was expecting $13 for a taco trio, but now they start at $17 with different ones costing more. It was quite the shock when online prices seemed so reasonable, and I initially wanted to find somewhere else to eat, but we were starving. We did enjoy our food very much and I would go back again but I hope they update their website to reflect their current pricing.
There's a pool table in there which is usually appealing, but we stink at pool and prefer to not play on one smack dab in the middle of a busy place. If they were to move it off towards the side it might draw more use; we were around that building the next day as well and never saw...
