I would give 100 stars if it would let me.
It began like any other Tuesday, but little did I know...It was overcast with a little rain, and just not at all the kind of day where you would expect such a wonderful experience in your life. My workplace was slow, which afforded me time to ponder on where I would take my lunch break. I heard from a man I respect that the ribs at Straight to Ale were "pretty good", but never in my life have I experienced such an understatement.
I live close to Ted's in 5-points, and they only have ribs on the weekend which seems too far for this hungry man on a Tuesday. I called to confirm the availability of my impending pork feast, where a beautiful voice answered "we make them every day", which threw away the erroneous concept that ribs were only a "weekend" treat.
The establishment was much more busy than my usual lunch spots, yet the staff was professional and very friendly, despite the kitchen chaos all restaurants deal with during lunchtime. They were calm, kind, and confident as they knew they had the ammunition to satiate the hungriest of beasts. I had an incredibly resplendent young angel named Lydia bring me a lunch that was soon to change the way I thought and lived forever.
Back at work, I opened the box and immediately knew that something was VERY different. I could already begin to taste the sauce in the atmosphere, then feel my stomach pleading with me to continue. I picked up the first piece and gazed in amazement as the meat started to gently slide away from the bone with only the force of gravity. As my jaw began to close around the first sample, I swear there was no sound-as if the universe itself was gasping at what was about to happen. One bite was all that I needed to know I had something special in this styrofoam container from God, so I eagerly shared it with my coworkers feeling an instinctual obligation to spread as much of this euphoria as I could.
We had a glorious, yet too short moment with these ribs; cleaning every bone before looking at my empty container with wide eyes like a puppy waiting for more scraps to magically fall to the floor. None of us had words for what just happened, but in just a handful of moments two coworkers left immediately to make the exact same purchase while the ones that stayed behind were left with only a new realization that it is VERY possible for taste buds to achieve an erection.
Thank you to the Chef, thank you to the pig, thank you to the entire staff. You filled a hole in my life I never sensed until that lunch. So obviously I'm recommending the ribs, and the Hamborghini is pretty...
Read moreWhile in town for a large convention that has been in Huntsville for nearly 67 yrs. A large group of us decided to visit Campus 805 and go to Straight to Ale for some food and drinks. While there we had around 12-16 at some tables pulled together. No sign was posted about CDC guidelines for group seating and nothing mentioned by wait staff prior to seating about large groups not being seated. After several continued to join and some of us had food ordered while others had not ordered food yet, or was awaiting food from the kitchen. We were informed that we needed to settle our tab and move to the back patio to a larger table. While we complied and agreed to move to the outside back patio. We got to the back patio and found no large table for us except about 6 picnic tables off in the grass with mud and standing water below them. Several of the group members are well known You Tube personality’s that with a combined number of over 300K following them. A friend and I asked to speak with manager to which one did speak to us and provided a number to a operational manager who did not answer his phone on this date and time. Essentially we were basically thrown out of the restaurant because we were asked to settle out bill and move to the back patio where there was no large table and shouldnt been asked to be seated at picnic table with mud and standing water below them. The group ultimately left and the business lost potential additional money spent by visitors to the City of Huntsville. The manager made a statement that they were choosing to follow only certain CDC guidelines in regards to COVID group sizes, but did not choose to have employees or customers wearing mask under these same guidelines. This group never was not rowdy, intoxicated, loud or anything to cause a disturbance on the inside. This had to be one of the most unfriendly restaurants I have visited. I have to give the restaurant one positive credit. By having us settle our tab, and asking us to move to the back to a larger table where there was no seating available was the most clever way to get a...
Read moreMy wife, my son, my daughter in law, my two grandchildren (both under four years of age), and I got to Straight to Ale around 7:30 pm. Ordered some drinks and placed our food order about fifteen or so minutes after arriving. For over an hour we waited for our food to arrive. We finally decided that we would wait another five minutes and if we did not see the food, we would leave. At around 8:57 our order arrived. Kids were restless, adults were restless and hungry. The food left a lot to be desired. My wife's nachos were distasteful and soggy. My Cuban was lacking in meat and the bread was very hard and crunchy. Not very good in flavor. My daughter in law had a very tough and chewy bun for her burger. However, a glimmer of hope with her bacon. She enjoyed that. The wings my son had seemed like they had been sitting under the heat lamp for a good period of time. I do not know who or how many persons were working in the kitchen, but they did not do their job properly. We weren't the only ones who had long overdue orders. The server was friendly enough, but not very attentive. We had to get his attention to ask for refills of water and tea while we waited for our food and even after we got our food. I cannot say if he was or not, but it seemed like he wasn't very proactive in getting our order out. The place was not overly crowded. I am familiar with the food service industry and I know what it is like to work in a kitchen. People would have been fired if this kind of output happened where I had worked. Suffice it to say, I do not intend on visiting this...
