Love this Mellow Mushroom in Huntsville! Katrina is one of the workers and Ben is one of the manager that stands out with amazing customer service and energy and I love many others there too. Bless their hearts!
Now, as for the truth, when I came yesterday on 3/10 before 4 pm, unfortunately there was a girl with dark, black hair at counter on side that seemed unfriendly and impatient a bit though the other girl with long blonde hair who was with her seemed friendlier and first time I encountered someone as such at this location. I told them 3 times in a calm, friendly way while ordering that I prefer my original vegan calzone with no cheese and with the substitute, no parmesan nor butter on crust and with tempeh and onions. Then when picking it up, I asked the girls what type of vegan substitute for cheese they use and was told they don't know with the unfriendly, cold girl with black hair saying she has never eaten it. The other girl with blonde, long hair told me it is all vegan, though when I noticed later and showed it to the manager Ben, he detected my calzone that was supposed to be vegan with no animal products meaning no dairy had the marinara sauce with parmesan in it and my calzone had the melted cheese in it? So glad the manager Ben took it back and spoke to a cook and said he would talk to those girls at the front. He emphasized to me that everybody here needs to understand what all is vegan versus vegetarian as well as gluten free with all allergies to beware of. So glad Ben took care of me and is so friendly and emphasizes sincere, friendly and welcoming customer service with all customers' needs being taken care of. Glad Ben said when I call or place orders in person next time, I can do it through a manager as it is the 3rd or 4th time overall at this location after initially placing a vegan order that it was messed up with dairy still placed in it after I repeatedly and nicely requested for not to. While I appreciate and acknowledge the rigors and such of the work here in this industry, nice when mess-ups do not happen especially after kindly repeated few times before ordering by a customer and no place for an employee to display coldness or unfriendliness for no...
Read moreBelieve it or not, I have lived in this particular area for over 26 years, and I just now discovered Mellow Mushroom on Cecil Ashburn. I have been there 3 times in 2 weeks now, and it has quickly become my favorite dine-in pizzeria - maybe of all time!
The pizza is easily in the top 10% anywhere, and is my go-to menu option, but there are LOTS of other things to choose from. Everybody is sure to find a favorite dish there. The prices are very reasonable. This is especially nice in this crazy age of runaway inflation. I really don't see how they do it. In fact, it won't exactly break the budget for everyone to just have their own small pizza, if everyone at the table is struggling to agree on which ingredients to add. The service is really, really good. The servers and management are very friendly and professional, and have treated us like family. We have had a different server every time too, so there is definitely a culture of it here, and therefore you don't have to rely on luck of the draw. So far, there has always been a nice drink special of some kind for Wifey to enjoy (be sure to check the chalk board for this as you walk in). And the place itself is big, fun and interesting, with plenty of parking.
As it better suits my current dietary needs, I wish they offered a cauliflower crust, but the crust options they do have are the tastiest around, and would be very hard to improve upon. I have tried a different crust every time I have been, and have been very impressed with all of them. It just means I shouldn't "pig out" all at once, and can bring a piece home for later, which is not really a 'bad' thing.
Seriously, if you don't like this place, you may as well stop trying to go out for pizza/Italian. I recommend the House Special pizza. It is a rather traditional pizza, but is piled higher than anywhere else, with an even larger selection of the "usual" favorite ingredients. The "special" or "deluxe" pizzas at most other places have 2 or 3 fewer ingredients than the one at Mellow Mushroom, and yet the price is...
Read moreOkay so let me tell you how I got schooled by the Za master at the Mellow South. I have a thing for the no longer on the menu Thai Pie but I'm such a baby about onions, I love them caramelized so that's my only edit to the Thai pie however mine was made regularly and Ponytail (oh ponytail you're so much more than a gorgeous ponytail, I should have asked your name sir but here were are affectionately yours, Ponytail) well ponytail comes out with the incorrectly made za, and tells me, your actual za is about to be up, but here's the one that was made incorrectly whilst you wait (I promise you ponytail, this wasn't an attempt at salting a batch of unsalted fries through the drive thru) Now because ponytail is so much more than ponytail, a true za master crafter back there without a single sache or swish of that hair yet moving so gracefully fast, because he knows how to onion a pizza without violence, I became a raw onion on my Thai pie fan and ended up eating more of the raw onioned one than the caramelized onion one(maybe this is just due to my 3 slice max and I pushed it there as it was, but they were delicious zas).
I also want to point out that this man took the mistake on his own hands, apologized for himself, gave me great pizzas himself, and when you look at both pizzas, he truly made them with different onions, altruism and integrity through and through with this one and delivered one he could stand behind the satisfaction guaranteed...
Now Tanner is a far drive to go to this Mellow, passing 2 others to get there, actually 3...but I won't go to any other one now, the za master resides in Cecil Ashburn, Ponytail, I...
