During a recent visit to Huntsville, Alabama, I had the pleasure of experiencing Oscar Moon’s Milkshake Bar, and it was nothing short of exceptional. Nestled within the historic Stovehouse complex, this establishment offers a delightful blend of nostalgic ambiance and delectable treats.
Upon entering, I was immediately captivated by the vintage soda fountain atmosphere. The decor, featuring cushy bar stools and antique accents, transports patrons back to simpler times, reminiscent of the 1950s soda-counter culture. The soulful music playing in the background further enhances the warm and inviting environment.
The menu boasts an impressive array of over-the-top milkshakes, classic floats, and craft sodas. Each offering is crafted with premium ingredients, ensuring a rich and satisfying flavor profile. I opted for their signature milkshake, which was both decadent and delicious, living up to the establishment’s reputation.
What truly set this visit apart was the outstanding service provided by our server, Gus. From the moment we were seated, Gus exuded warmth and professionalism. He was attentive to our needs, offering insightful recommendations and ensuring that our experience was nothing short of perfect. His genuine passion for his work and commitment to customer satisfaction were evident throughout our visit.
The story behind Oscar Moon’s is both unique and heartwarming. The name “Oscar Moon” was discovered scrawled on a door jamb in the old Martin Stove building, now revitalized as Stovehouse. Oscar, born Howard Floyd Moon, was known for his “servant’s heart,” always going above and beyond to assist others. This legacy of treating people right is clearly embodied by the current staff, especially Gus, who made our visit memorable.
In conclusion, Oscar Moon’s Milkshake Bar is a must-visit destination in Huntsville. The combination of a nostalgic setting, exquisite treats, and exceptional service, highlighted by Gus’s dedication, makes it a standout establishment. I wholeheartedly recommend this gem to anyone seeking a delightful and...
Read moreCame by the other day looking for a new treat to try. Oscar Moon's has those in abundance. An array of milkshakes of most imaginable flavors, hot cocoa during the winter, sundaes, and old timey candy are all waiting for you.
The inside is decorated super cute, kinda like a soda shop. If it's busy, it runs like an assembly line, pretty much with one door in and one door out. Luckily, I was the only one there other than the employee when I came to place my order. A couple others trickled in while I waited.
Service was adequate. Honestly, I kinda felt like maybe I wasn't super welcome - the employee was working on a laptop when I came in and I just sort of felt like I was disturbing them. However, they weren't out-and-out rude and my shake was made and delivered to me in a reasonable amount of time. I did ask for no cherry and they originally placed one on there, but ultimately removed it before giving my shake to me.
They use Blue Bell ice cream here for their shakes, which I like pretty well. I ordered the Chocolate Buzz, which is made witch chocolate ice cream and a lot of coffee flavorings (espresso shot, espresso flavor, espresso dusting, and an espresso rolled cherry, per the menu). It was ~$8, which is about what I expect for a fancy milkshake in a location like Stovehouse.
The milkshake was good, but not really what I was hoping for, I guess. It tasted pretty much like a regular chocolate shake. It SMELLED like coffee, but the coffee flavor wasn't really there for me. I was really hoping for a strong coffee flavor. Additionally, I personally really prefer my milkshakes on the thicker side. This was pretty thin and quite drinkable. Easy to drink quickly though! It was also a beautiful drink. Overall, this would definitely be a fun spot to take kids of friends to get a sweet treat. For me, I'll probably try something different the next...
Read moreI have been here many times and have always had great experiences; however, tonight was not the case. My family and I ordered and sat down at the counter. I immediately noticed how dirty everything was behind the counter (even with 3 people "working"). There was melted ice cream all along the working spaces, down the sides of the counters into the trashcans. There were squashed cherries and sprinkles everywhere. They were making my milkshake all around it, and it kind of grossed me out. The counter I was sitting at was also sticky with melted ice cream, like it hadn't been wiped since previous customers. I received the Horse Jackery milkshake (which I always love!) but for some reason today it was very gritty. It tasted like sugar crystals that hadn't been mixed into the icecream, but when I picked it out of my mouth, it was brown like cocoa. It was hard for me to figure out what it was, but it made my milkshake very chewy and strange. I ended up throwing half of it out. I usually always get the Horse Jackery and have never had it taste like that before. It's been about 3 months since I have been here and it seems like things are not as...
