I was familiar with Turbo Coffee back when I lived in Tuscaloosa. I wasn't a coffee drinker then but it was a popular spot among students. I was excited when I heard Turbo was coming to Huntsville -- having since become a coffee lover.
The Huntsville Turbo is located in the newly revamped Lincoln Mill. There's ample parking and everything looks clean and modern. The inside of the shop is, in my opinion, very pretty. It'd make a nice place to work or study, assuming the noise doesn't get out of control. I ordered to go so I can't really be sure about what the acoustics are like over time.
They do have a nice online ordering system. I didn't use it this time, but the option is there.
The service was okay. I sort of felt like I wasn't cool enough to be talking to the employees, but maybe that's me projecting my own insecurities, lol. Coffee and açaí bowl came out in a reasonable time.
I ordered an iced cocoa puff latte and a Samoa bowl. The bowl came with bananas, almond butter, chia honey, and cacao nibs. I didn't care for the texture of the cacao nibs and would ask for them to be removed if I visit again, but the other toppings were good. The açaí was a little icy but that improved as it slowly melted. I'd consider ordering another açaí bowl, but I hear good things about the rest of the menu and would probably try a sandwich or something else first.
As for the latte...I really didn't like it. I'm not sure why - it sounded right up my alley based off the description. But it tasted really sour to me, and it was also just too bitter.
I'll accept that I'm very much a girly coffee drinker -- I like my flavored coffees and I don't like more purist coffee drinks. This gave pretty purist vibes. Nothing wrong with that; just means it isn't for me. That's okay.
One another thing to note: pretty expensive, imo. My acai bowl and 16oz came out to $23.08 after tip.
They have a large list of smoothies that also sound pretty good, so if I return it'll definitely be one of those with a sandwich or...
Read moreCool and hip looking place but I went twice last week and it looks like they staff it with one employee that has them in this overwhelmed state the whole time I was there. The first time on a Sunday I tried to order an açai bowl. Her response was ‘ well that’s gonna take me a while, ‘ I said OK make it a smoothie. I felt sorry for her thinking someone on a Sunday must not have showed up for work. Smoothie was very good but for 10 bucks very small I’m not looking for a route 44 size drink but at least make it a medium for 10 bucks so I feel halfway full after I finish it. Offer both sizes, I’ll pay more. I go back to the next day on a Monday with twice as many customers in their store and still the one employee, A different one, but with the same overwhelmed look on her face as she tried to complete everyone’s order with about 5-6 people waiting. She did make my açai bowl without any resistance with twice as many people in the store. It did take a while, again very good If not the best I’ve had yet in Huntsville. So a note to the owner Instead of being a cheapskate and ruining your business, trying to milk every nickel out of it with undersized portions and keeping it understaffed. Staff it properly for a business offering specialty drinks that take a while to prepare. You don’t need 3-4 people like a Starbucks setup would have selling the same things, but at least have two so you’re cool hip looking store with great food and drinks can have some great over the top service for your customers as well I’m sure your employees would also appreciate the better working environment. I guarantee you the math will work...
