The staff member by the name of Rob, is believed to have racially discriminated against my nephew! My nephew (18 years old) is a young black man and he was hired at McAlister's Deli at the Alexandria location. He had came in on sunday 06/13/21 to fill out his pre-employment paperwork. Today 06/14/21 is his supposed first official day and he had arrived there 30 mins prior to his start time at his shift because he was so eager to start working. Upon waiting, the hiring manager/staff member by the name of ROB (will get more information about full name and title position) shrugged him off when my nephew went to greet him. My nephew was puzzled and asked his friend who put him on to this job opening to ask what should he do next rather than just sitting around and doing nothing. My nephew took the initiative and asked Rob to speak with him about his tasks for the evening. Rob proceeds to bring my nephew into his office and talks down to him demanding that he should exercise "patience." without proper explanation of his apparent frustration with my nephew. My question is why would you have someone fill out pre-employment paperwork and ask them to come in for their first shift only to pull the rug from under him? and you claim the justified reason for firing him is because he was impatient?? I don't know but that just doesn't sit well with my spirit. Regardless, after being scolded with zero explanation, my nephew apologizes and proposes the question to Rob on how he can be of use since he's been waiting to start work. Again, Rob scoffs and reiterates "If you're not patient, you aren't the person we're looking for." and without giving my nephew a chance to explain his own frustration and confusion throughout this entire situation. Rob demands my nephew to leave and that he was no...
Read moreI love coming here and ordering the sandwiches. My 2 favorites are the Memphian and the New Yorker. The King Club is delicious as well and worth it along with the McAlisters Club.
One of my favorite parts about here is that you can substitute the breads. When I go to restaurants and want a sandwich, switching the breads out arent usually a thing unless they only have white or wheat. I love that you can substitute the breads for baguettes, wraps, Ciabata, gluten-free, and Rye bread. The options definitely help when looking for healthier alternatives.
The staff has been helpful and informative when answering my questions, and their cookies are pretty delicious. The tea is also sweet but not overwhelming, which is a plus.
There is plenty of seating and spacious, and the deli is when the weather is nice, plenty of seating for outside as well. Also, a great plus is there is hand sanitizers readily available. The counter height does accommodate those who are in a wheelchair along with the dining tables are wheelchair height as well.
I visit often and this is one of the places I visit when nearby and in the mood for a sandwich or...
Read moreDecember 27, 2018 - Myself, my husband and two daughters stopped at this location after visiting DC. My youngest daughter is a picky eater and most often when we visit a deli it is difficult for her to find something to eat and when she does, she drives the person taking the order crazy deleting and substituting items. When we arrived at the counter, the owner was taking orders. He was super patient with my daughter and even joked with her over her selections. He helped her select an item she had never tried and modified it to meet her likes. He even came to our table once our food was delivered to make sure that our order was correct. He also visited with us telling us about the area. I truly cannot thank him enough for his hospitality, patience and overall welcoming personality. McAllister's is very blessed to have him in their franchise. Thank you, Mr. Coppock, for making a memorable day in DC end with a very fun, tasty and...
