Chicago's Home of Chicken & Waffles — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

We waited patiently for our booth. The lady at the from door was really nice. Our waitress was terrible. Before we sat down she drop $100 on the floor and we told her and she picked the money up. She sat us at our booth and took our order. The waitress seem really young and mind somewhere else other than her job. We waited a very long time for our food and when it came it was very cold because she didn't pick up right away. First off we didn't have silverware so we told the lady that was working the front door and she advised our waitress. I guess the silverware was down south because she took forever to come back. When she returned we told her our food was cold and what can been done. The waitress got upset 😡 because dhe couldn't articulate her words right to speak to a customer 🙄 She begin to say we can make the orders over which was fine but my mother-in-Law was asking her something and she was getting frustrated because she was wrong from the start. This young girl had the nerve to tel us we can leave 😤 that's when I lost my kindness. I explained to her and reminded her we saved you from loosing $100 she said she don't care that's the restaurant money. The lady at the front desk had to pull her to the back because she was hollering and called me out my name . This was really sad that she has no idea about customer service and how to talk to people. We asked for a manager and was advised not here today. I will never return to this location and continue going to the location out west on Madison. I can't give a star because this restaurant doesn't deserve anything. We never got our food made again because she told us to leave and at this point who would trust people making your food. People sit at their table waiting for the other lady to calm her down in the back. I had to give 1 🌟 to...

The chicken was good, the waffles were on the spongy side, the fries were outstanding, the macaroni was cold, and the cornbread was really dry. If it were just the food this place would be 3-4 stars. However, all the other reviews talking about long wait times and non-communicative staff are all spot on.

There is no hostess so you wait for a waitress to seat you when they have time. When we showed up about 1/3 of the tables were empty. There are only a couple of spots to sit and everyone else will be standing for a while. We sat and waited for about 20 minutes until someone behind us in line lost their cool and yelled until they got the attention of a waitress who seated us.

We waited another 15 minutes for the waitress to bring us some water. Another 15 or so to get our order in, and about 30 min for our food to come out. So about 80 minutes in total during a non rush Saturday mid afternoon.

Our waitress never gave more than a one word response or acted interested in our table until she dropped the check off. We were definitely some of the lucky ones, while we were going through our process there was a lady that was there before us with a take out order that didn't get her food until we were halfway into our meal. She probably spend 90-120 minutes waiting and the person just dropped off the food and walked away without saying anything.

A table seated 2-3 tables after us had the same waitress as us and was able to out their order in first. There food shows up about 15-20 min after ours and one of the orders was wrong. No one is willing to gamble in the kitchen after waiting for over an hour and they just have to suck it up and eat what's put in front of them.

My recommendation is if you want to eat there is to eat first and then go. You'll be hungry again by the time...

Unfortunately, I did not have the best experience at this particular establishment. The wait time was ridiculous. When we were allowed in the building, we had to stand alongside a wall a few feet away from where people were consuming their food and beverages. When we were finally seated, the waitress did not come back to our table another fifteen minutes. Now the place was overcrowded, so we were willing to give some grace. Our waitress did the best she could especially having so many tables to attend to. After we place our orders, we waited 45-60 minutes before anything, or anyone came back to our table.

When the food did arrive, the chicken breast was cool to touch and was extremely dry as if it had been sitting for a while. The yams were cool as well. When I explained to the waitress that the food was cool, she rolled her eyes, took a deep breath, and said, "sorry, I'll take it back and have them redo it fresh". I asked if she was alright. She responded she was fine and left the table. She came back literally 6 minutes later with "new fresh" food. Before she placed it on the table, my guest asked if the cooks remade it fresh or just microwaved the original plate. She shrugged her shoulders and said I told them you all complained that it was cold and to remake it fresh again.

My guest then touched the plate and confirmed the food had simply been placed in a microwave or something. We explained to the waitress that was unacceptable and that they could just cancel that order. We offered her a small tip due to the conditions she was working under. We understood it wasn't her fault that there wasn't enough staff to handle the large crowd. Needless to say, my guest and I left the establishment displeased.
