2024: This was always one of those places I was curious about so I decided to stop by. The place is your standard bulletproof glass hood restaurant setup with a small fish market awkwardly put together. They also have a soda vending machine when they already have a drink fridge which is odd. The vending machine has a different selection than what they sell themselves. I ordered a chicken and catfish combo along with a gizzards dinner with came out to be a little over $20. The food was ready in about 10 minutes. Of course as I walk out, some phony scammer walks up asking for food with child in tow to play on your heartstrings so watch out. I watched as they got into a brand new vehicle after begging.
Now back to the food. The gizzards are overbreaded and rubbery. Very tough to chew on which hurts your jaw. I wasn't even halfway through them before I tapped out from my jaw being tired & teeth hurting. They are overseasoned to the point where it burns your tongue. The dinner doesn't come with a drink, but it does come with fries and a single slice of bread.
Overall, I doubt I'll be back. The poor reviews and low amount of foot traffic are no surprise here. If you're gonna offer stereotypical food then you have to get it right otherwise it feels like a slap in the face.
Update 2025: It's rare that I'm confused about a place. This place seems to always have at least two people waiting outside in their cars, but I guess the clientele wouldn't know good food if it slapped them in the face. Walking in the place reaks of rotten fish which is a major red flag, especially on a freaking Tuesday (fresh fish for the week should've been delivered Sunday or Monday like with most restaurants.) They didn't have bass so I got some jack salmon. The salmon reaked of rotten fish as well. The taste was off too and my stomach turned within 10 minutes after eating. Definitely serving spoiled fish to people which is what other reviewers have complained about. No bread either. The breading on the fish is hardly seasoned.
No surprise when you look up their health scores they failed inspection in the past for unclean facilities and not even having proper plumbing as latest as November 2024. They've somehow either outright failed or barely passed as long as certain conditions were to be met 13 out of 27 times over the years which is...
Read moreI'd gone to Market Fish 2 today on 103rd Street March 24, 2023. I ordered a Large Catfish Dinner, Spaghetti, and a order of Fried Okra. The Cashier is Amazing and Professional. It's a guy that works in this Fish market that gave me my order. He is rude; Unprofessional and Disrespectful to the 10th Power!! I requested a paticular container of Spaghetti he told me; that he didn't have the time to get me the container of Spaghetti that I wanted because its Friday and they are crowded. He then proceeded to throw everything in that cooler around just to get the Spaghetti knocking everything in his way over. Rearranging everything in that cooler with anger and hostility. He is the most disrespectful person that I have come in contact with in a very long time. He needs Extensive Anger Management Attention by the best Qualified Mental Therapy Specialist!! I've watched him in my few visits to this establishment. He is completely OUT Of HIS MIND!! Whomever, employs him is taking a dangerous risk by having him around the public. I would think twice before ever going to the place again. Remember! You never get a second chance to make a first...
Read moreBeen a patron of Market Fish since I can't remember. Lately food can be hit or miss. When it's good it's GOOD! I've been a customer for decades. They use to have real friendly people on the register. They knew the kind of fish I wanted when I called up. I walked in one day and learned my favorite register lady passed away. They later hired another young lady to run the register and she was good also, no longer there. Guy running the register now can be a grouch sometimes but likes to talk about basketball, so it's cool to see him "lighten up" They spruced the place up got rid of those ripped foamed fold up chairs and remolded. I keep coming back and tell others to check it out. Additionally, I buy fresh fish and chicken sometimes to cook at home. An added plus is the rice in case you don't want fries. Vast majority of times food is ready when I arrive when I call ahead. If you're hungry it will hit the spot. However, sometimes they "miss the tune" but when they are on Q they hit...
