it’s very likely this is among the best ice cream you can get that originates in Chicagoland. Multiple flavors that you’ve never gotten before such as sweet potato pie or fudge cheesecake. Plus many of your usual favorites like chocolate chip cookie dough, Oreo, and butter pecan. Richard's crafts flavors that can be both powerful and subtle. Layers of flavor: some of them you taste in the beginning, and then others will occur during the finish, like a fine wine. Some of the choices are inspired by African-American cuisine, and these are welcome. They have an excellent apple pecan, a great mango that is more muted than the typical sorbet, but still good flavor of the fruit. Their pineapple vodka ice cream is also especially noteworthy, not merely because of the alcohol content. At the suggestion of the manager, pairing it with their lemon icebox cake ice cream was a great combination. I believe the best two flavors I tried were their sweet potato pie and their banana pudding ice cream, the latter being their bestseller. Those are so special—worth coming here just for those two. This is not really an ice cream parlor in the sense that there are no tables and chairs with little napkins and table service. It’s more of a takeout and delivery location, but it IS set up to walk in and order yourself, either by the scoop (or sundae) or by the pint. They also serve sandwiches, including burgers and fries and hot dogs and gyros. But there’s nowhere for you to eat it; it's takeout (or, I believe Door Dash). Staff and management are friendly and willing to discuss each flavor. Definitely worth our drive from the north side. It’s conveniently located right off the highway exit (Bishop Ford Freeway). Well lit free parking. Definitely recommend it.

A Hidden Gem Near Pullman National Historic Site – Don’t Miss Richard’s! If you're visiting the Pullman National Historic Site, do yourself a favor and stop by Richard's — a small, quirky ice cream shop that's absolutely bursting with charm and flavor. I tried the mango ice cream, and wow — it was superb. Rich, creamy, and bursting with real fruit flavor. The strawberry sundae was another standout, perfectly balanced and full of nostalgic goodness. You can really tell everything is made on-site and with care — nothing generic here. The person behind the counter was incredibly friendly and helpful, taking time to explain the flavors and share recommendations. It's those personal touches that make a local business special. Sure, the location might seem a little unexpected — but don’t let that deter you. It adds to the charm, honestly. Richard’s is a true hidden gem that feels like it belongs in a travel magazine feature on great local spots. Highly recommend adding this to your itinerary when you're in the Pullman area. You’ll be glad you did.

I was in the mood for a sweet treat and was looking for something outside the city with free parking. Richards checked both of those boxes! I tried their banana pudding ice cream and they give you a nice sized scoop for the price. The ice cream consistency was unique and had a thicker stretchier texture. I haven't had much ice cream like this before, but I liked it! I've also never had banana pudding ice cream before but wanted to give it a shot since it was one of their best sellers. It had a slightly similar taste to a banana laffy taffy so if you're into that, this may be the ice cream for you! I've realized I may not be a huge banana ice cream fan but you never know until you try. Maybe I would've liked a slightly more natural subtle banana flavor, but I could see how people would still like this. They had some other flavors that looked pretty good too like strawberry cheesecake. This would've been right up my alley, but I was wanting to try something new. The individual who was working when I stopped by was also super friendly!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Richard's Black-Owned Ice Cream Shop in the vibrant Pullman neighborhood of Chicago, and it was an absolute delight! From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere.

The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Strawberry Shortcake ice cream. Oh my goodness, it was incredible! The strawberry flavor was so fresh and vibrant, and the ice cream was perfectly sweet. What made it even better was the addition of actual cake pieces throughout. The blend of flavors and textures was simply phenomenal. It was like enjoying a slice of strawberry shortcake but in frozen form. Trust me when I say it was bomb!

To top off the experience, we couldn't resist taking a pint of the Banana Pudding ice cream home. It was like indulging in a creamy, dreamy bowl of homemade banana pudding. The flavor was spot-on, and every spoonful was pure bliss. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients really shine through in each scoop.

If you're a fan of delectable ice cream creations and crave a genuine and welcoming environment, Richard's Black-Owned Ice Cream Shop is an absolute must-visit. Treat yourself to the Strawberry Shortcake and prepare to be amazed. And don't forget to grab a pint of the Banana Pudding ice cream to savor at home. You won't be disappointed!

I'll definitely be back for more of your...

I recently visited this ice cream shop after hearing my friend rave about it — and after tasting some of their ice cream, I understood why! The flavor I tried at my friend’s house was absolutely delicious and full of texture, with the perfect balance of mix-ins.

Excited to have my own, I stopped by this evening to grab a pint. While the ice cream itself was good, my experience was a little different. The wait was quite long, and my pint didn’t come with the same packaging my friend received — it was missing the lid cover and didn’t have any of the crust pieces that made my first taste so memorable.

On a positive note, there was a beautiful church sermon playing in the background, which made the wait more peaceful and pleasant.

Even though this visit wasn’t quite what I expected, I truly believe this shop has something special to offer. My friend’s pint was incredible, and I even went back to their house to try it again and remind myself of what I fell in love with! I’m looking forward to giving this place another chance and hoping my next experience matches the amazing first...
