In a city full of ethnic markets, Food Land Market raises the bar for all. Owned and operated by the Mutlak family, Food Land Market is a beautifully designed Middle Eastern market that includes a comfortable dining area up front, along with a coffee shop that features Arabic coffee and soon there will be organic fresh-squeezed orange juice. In the back is a bakery, an olive bar, Danish cheese and freshly butchered halal meat. There is also a counter that you can order a number of menu items that include breakfast, lunch, sandwiches and sides. I visited the evening of 10/22/19, the day after the soft opening. Unfortunately, I got there late, so the kitchen was closed. I look forward to returning and trying some of the menu items, especially some of the breakfast items which were unfamiliar to me. I love that the inside of the store has been completely remodeled, resulting in a bright, airy space with plenty of room between the aisles. I love the emphasis on a wide variety of high-quality products, including the biggest variety of Turkish Delight I have ever seen. I can't wait to try the sour cherry flavor. The prices on the specialty candy item are also the best I've ever come across. There are number of wonderful Middle Eastern markets in Boise, but this one is my new personal favorite. The only downside is the challenging parking situation. As a result, I recommend that you schedule your first visit for early morning, evening or weekend. Food Land Market is a wonderful addition to the Morris Hill neighborhood. I encourage you to...
Read moreThis market offers all kinds of canned, dried and frozen foods from several Middle Eastern countries. It is fascinating to walk up and down the aisles. I discovered things I had never heard of. The labels on the containers often are written in the language of the country of origin. I bought eggplant salad in a jar, tahini in a squeezable bottle and rosehip jelly.
My friend and i ordered lunch from the counter in the back of the store. I had a platter with 3 meats: chicken, lamb, and ground lamb with ground beef. The chicken was dry. I recommend the ground meat. Tender and tasty. Served on a large wooden platter with a nice little green salad, humus, and a thin tough pita. I also ordered potato samosas. They were spicy and nicely crispy. Very good.
In the back of the store there is a huge case of every kind of baklava you can imagine. We did not have room for dessert so my friend and I plan to go back to try one or two.
The young man who took our food order and who delivered it to us was friendly. I asked him several questions which he patiently answered. The man who we paid was on his cell phone the whole time he was ringing up my order I had to point out to him that he had not rung up everything. He never got off the phone. Poor customer service...
Read moreThis was my 1st time, but it would not be my last time. Excellent selection of imported items. The store was very clean and well ordered. I walked to the back to order some hot food and the man there was young, very friendly and polite. They opened the back door briefly, and I saw the mother of the family hard at work preparing some of the food items. They have many Middle Eastern items, but I believe they specialize in Iraqi cuisine. I could go back many times and try a variety of items, especially their sweets and grilled olives! You order your food in the back and immediately sit down in front, where they will bring it to you. I ordered the lamb shwarma sandwich Arab-style with a side of hummus. The sandwich had the perfect level of spice, and the hummus was very creamy served with Pita bread. Before you leave, go to the cash register to pay your bill along with any other items you've picked up in the store while you wait. I definitely recommend getting an authentic hot brewed coffee before you leave. The only complaint I can think of is that they do not advertise enough and it took me almost 2 years to find...
