I was there for 1st time. The service was 🐌 slow, but the plates were delicious 😋 👌 . I saw a waitress who assisted us entering the restroom, and l wait until she's done to go due to it having 1 toilet. She just runs to assist to another table. When l done my business in the restroom, l water my hands, but the soap container does not have the liquid soap bag refill. I remembered l saw outside both restrooms 🚻[man/woman] hands sanitizers stands. When l tried to use it, it was obviously empty. I tried to use the outside guys' restroom hands sanitizer, but it looks like it wasn't refilled for a long time like the other two. Immediately, it comes to my mind seeing the waitress when placed on my plate on the table, her tumb touching my food... I won't back there anymore...

Saw this place online and had some good reviews. Stopped in while in Imperial and it was so quaint. Nice family ran business and very friendly too. I had the shrimp taco plate and it was good. Wishing for some lime crema sauce but it still was delicious. Hubby had a Como taco/burrito and he really liked it. Now they have a Special quesodilla that is huge! Kinda like a empanada on steroids or a huge Mexican calzone. It's really fantastic. We got ours with Carne asada and will enjoy it for dinner tonight.

Moving from Philadelphia to Imperial was a culture shock. El Zarape was my introduction to good Mexican food and salsa! Still my favorite salsa rojo. Became addicted to carné asada special quesadillas because of this place. I did recently go here with some friends from Mexico and said their caldo de reyes was a little bland.

Ok, so here is my honest review and I think I am being generouse with the 3 stars. The food lacked flavor just like the water I ordered with my food. I seriously had to put salt on everything, rice, beans, and tacos. I ordered the fish taco plate btw. Let's talk about the guacamole if you can even call it a gucamole, mash up some avocados and throw it in a bowl. That was the guacamole, no flavor no salt, no nothing. It is simply mashed avocados. There are a couple of positives however, and those are that the staff were friendly and the restaurant...

I've coming here for almost 20 years and it is by far the best Mexican food you'll ever find. This is my go-to restaurant. Even when I lived out of state, I would have my mom FedEx me food from here, because it is that good. The staff is friendly and the food is excellent!

El Zarape in Imperial, California is one of those places where everything on the menu is delicious. But if you need a tip, or this is your first visit to the restaurant, try the special quesadilla. And my favorite dish is the carne asada taco plate with...
