I went in today and ordered of the lunch (yes it's a Sunday) and I didn't realize that. I told the server I wanted the lunch order and showed him on the menu. He didn't tell me I couldn't order from the lunch menu like they normally do on Sundays. I got my food and it was the same size as the lunch porton. On the smaller plate and less food. My friend got the same thing as a kids meal for her kids and mine was the same size as the kid's, maybe slightly larger. When I got my check I was surprised by my total as I was charged for the dinner size.
When I went to pay, I asked about this and I was told they served me the lunch portion because that's what I asked for. However, they have to charge for the dinner portion as it's a Sunday. I stated that I wanted the lunch portion for the price not the size and if I had known that, I would of ordered something different. One guy laughed at me, while the other guy said next time I should order the kids meal as it's the same size and only $9. If I would have known that, that's what I would have done.
Needless to say. I know I was in the wrong for not realizing it was Sunday, but also feel that my server should have said something or atleast given me the dinner size portion as that is what I paid for.
Also, I'm pretty sure the food wasn't cooked right as I have been sick since I left.
We asked for more salsa bowls and straws right when they took our order. Got our food out could not find our server and had to ask another server to being them. Only saw our server again when we need the check and boxes.
I will not be returning to...
Read moreMy family went to El Nopal and had late lunch/early dinner last night. We were told to follow a waitress to the table, who dropped down menus and didn’t return for about 5 minutes. When she returned, we provided her with our order. Two out of the four of us received food immediately, while the others had to wait another 5-7 minutes. The waitress never came to check on us, at which time I took my mom’s plate to the front because she’d been given the wrong meal. Took a while for someone to acknowledge I was there (two ladies were chatting with their backs facing me). I was polite and shared that this was not what my mom ordered and my server said it was. She stared at me until I returned to the table, after which she stopped by to tell my parent it was what she ordered. She then walked away again without offering her the chance to order something different or apologize. She also didn’t ask if any of us were enjoying the food. In addition, I usually enjoy their chicken burritos, although the burrito I received had such a dry shell that it was almost hard to eat so I picked out some of the chicken inside and called it done without the taking anything home. I’ve recommended this restaurant chain to a few friends, but won’t do that anymore. Mistakes happen, but to essentially be ignored and have our server act like we’re bothering her, it was not a pleasant experience. The restaurant was not busy and staff were primarily focused on chatting with each other. I’ve been a waitress myself for years and a tip was given, but again, I...
Read moreI've eaten there dozens of times over the years and sometimes the food is pretty decent and other times not. It's fairly inconsistent. One thing that happens 85% of the time is when you order a dish that is supposed to include guacamole they don't bring it and you have to ask them for it. Usually they bring it but sometimes they are out of stock, which they should tell you before you order a dish with guacamole.
Margarita's can also be hit-and-miss. Most of the time they're decent but I've had a few times when the mix they use tastes really old and the flavor is bad. Usually you can tell that as soon as you see it because they are a darker yellow green than normal.
Service is usually pretty good though there are of course some servers better than others.
I wouldn't call anything there great but that's about what you expect at El Nopal--mediocre food and a lot of it. In that way all of the El Nopals that I have visited have...
