Tucked a few blocks away from Indiana's "restaurant row", Nap's is a delight. We regularly drive almost an hour from Ligonier to enjoy dinner in this cozy spot. Why, you ask, would we do such a thing?
GREAT FOOD! The chef cares about his product, and the food is simple and well-executed. Try the specials – pork chop is a don't miss – and the gnocchi with Nonna sauce is a classic. The sides are given as much care as the mains, and we have had delicious broccoli raab sauteed with garlic, bacon chive mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes with sage, and garlic sauteed spinach. This is the Italian comfort food you would make yourself if you had the time and a chef's training. :-) Desserts are lovely – we like the bread pudding with REAL whiskey sauce. Wine list is small but well-chosen, and prices are reasonable.
ATMOSPHERE. This place is SIMPLE. Warm, golden sponged walls, simple booths and tables, and the friendliest people around. You really feel like family at Nap's. The love that clearly goes into the food prep infuses the whole place with a friendly vibe. I have seen service get slightly chaotic on a very busy night, but I'll take slightly quirky delivery of a great meal over well-served junk any day!
Check out Nap's – you're gonna like it! ...
Read moreNap's has always been an incredible dining spot for my family. Now that I no longer live in the area, my wife and I regularly travel the 2 hours specifically to visit Nap's. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and inviting, and with the addition of Josephine's, they offer something for everyone. The food has always been incredible, with great weekly specials. They are obviously not on the menu, as they are constantly revolving, but the servers tend to know in depth details about them.
It blows me away that people complain about waiting for their food. This is a small, family owned and operated restaurant. It's not Olive Garden, so yes, the food does take longer than a typical, run of the mill restaurant. When you visit a place like this, a logical person would plan for more time.
The open atmosphere of the kitchen is awesome, as you can watch your food being prepared. I believe it is a HUGE asset for the guest, as you know what is happening to your food. It's not some shady, minimum wage cook in a back room prepping and cooking your food.
Overall, Nap's will always be a special place for us, and you should definitely...
Read moreOrdered salad with no onions or peppers, that was ok, but it hadgorgonzola cheese on it, which I did not want, and waiter wouldn't leave table with it until I accepted it-- yuck! Shouldn't have been strong armed into eating their mistake. Also ordered spaghetti with meatballs and was served by a waitress(not our waiter) and it was linguine with meatballs and I said I had ordered spaghetti and she said we don't even have spaghetti, so this is the closest we have to what you ordered. Our waiter should have told me that when he took my order. The nonna Patti sauce was unsweet and very bitey, like it had hot sauce added to it.... Very unpalatable--- yuck! Meatballs were good noodles very much al dente-- much thicker and chewier than I like-yuck! Focaccia bread very heavy and dense. Husband had a steak, said it was very good. Bill was a sticker shock at $89 as no price in menu for the steak. Also, Bill on slip not broken down, so still no idea of cost for steak meal or if we were charged for the cheese we DID NOT want on our salads. Kinda cool to see the chefs cook at the open grill, but VERY NOISY atmosphere. Will...
