The Jimmy Stewart Museum is something that is raved about within Indiana County. I’ve never known much about who this man was, but after visiting a learned a lot. i enjoyed seeing the awards, white house letters, and posters that were made.

With it being located on the side of Philadelphia Street, i felt almost rushed because i didn’t want the meter to run out of time. Due to me being there for work, the receptionist let me and my coworker into the museum for free, which was a very generous gesture. The receptionist gave us a small historical rundown as well as telling us where everything was located. the museum itself has a pretty cheap gift shop with cool stuff inside.

i wish it was a little more accessible though. Philly Street parking isn’t always the best so look forward to walking to the...

We are Jimmy Stewart fans and decided to drive up and see the museum. What a wonderful place.

The museum is an annex to the Indiana Public Library, in the middle of town per Jimmy's wishes. The museum starts with Jimmy's ancestry goes through his time growing up in Indiana, through his first movie career, his military service and his second movie career.

The tour guide, Terre, got us started with the first room then allowed us to wander around looking at all of the artifacts from Jimmy's life. He was a remarkable man, an actor, soldier, athlete, musician, poet and painter. Throughout his life Jimmy lived the ideals taught to him by his parents and those he grew up with in Indiana.

The museum has plans for 2020 as this year is the 25th anniversary of museum. We'd like to come back and see...

Museum itself was pretty cool, however the customer service was subpar. The man working at the ticket box did not offer everyone discounts for military, students, and AAA members which was extremely disappointing as we found this out when we were getting ready to leave and our family has AAA. When confronted about it, he offered no apology and ignored the comment. Also, the man working the gift store should be retired as he struggled to use the electronic tablet for ringing up or returning purchases. A family member had to return an item almost immediately after the purchase and it took more than a half hour to do the simple return and he was unable to perform the return so she just kept the item due to impatience and...

The entrance was a little tough to find. It is set back from the library building a bit and not at all obvious from the street. Apparently, there is limited free parking behind the building, but by the time we knew that, we had already fed a parking meter and were inside the museum. It is a small museum, but has some interesting things. Being a film buff, I had thought we had seen a lot of Mr. Stewart's performances. We learned that we have some homework to do! :-) The staff were very nice, but what is with museums like this not allowing photography? They have a theater that plays Mr. Stewart's movies. We didn't stay long enough to see a feature film, but did watch the biographical film. It was very good. Recommended.

This is a wonderful, sweet little museum. It is housed within a humble space on the third floor of the public library, but it is full of memorabilia from Jimmy Stewart's life and career. Different rooms within the museum are dedicated to Stewart's early years in Indiana, his military career, his movie career, and re-creations of his childhood bedroom and his personal office in his later years. There is also a charming little 50-seat (or so) theatre (with real old-fashioned theatre seats!) that screens one of Stewart's movies each afternoon. The museum also contains a small gift shop. Plan for at least an hour.

April 2024 Wonderful museum loaded with memorabilia and personal effects of Jimmy Stewart’s private and professional life, including his selfless time in the military. I have always enjoyed his movies and knew he was a very honorable, standup guy, but I came away from a two-hour visit knowing so much more about his life and impact on American culture. Truly a remarkable man and you can take it all in with a visit to this little gem tucked away in small time America.
