Any other time, I would have given this restaurant a solid four stars, as their food is good but their service is hit or miss. Unfortunately after the mess today, not only do they get a poor rating they also get a very honest review. We had a group of three for the all you can eat lunch, with a very late fourth guest, who only ordered water. Having never had sushi, she was in no hurry to try something new. At the end of our meal, I passed one of the five remaining pieces of sushi on my plate (most from different rolls, mind you) and encouraged her to try it. She picked it apart with her fork trying to figure out what was in it. After a few moments, I gave her a whole piece to actually taste, which she did. It was the very end of our meal and our server came to see if we wanted one or separate checks for the three of us who ate. A few minutes later, a woman (presumably a part of the management team - the same one who sat us and continued to eye us, even bringing food to us, but never acting as if our presence was desired in the establishment), came by and asked, again, if we wanted "four" separate checks. My friend, assuming they had to ring up the water for the fourth seat told them just to put the water on her bill. The woman returns with four checks and sure enough she charged the fourth guest for a full lunch. I told her she didn't eat but the one roll which I gave her and she shouldn't be charged for it. She proceeded to argue with me, saying she saw her eat three pieces of food (which she hadn't) and that was why she had to pay. I assured her that not only had she not, but that she would NOT be paying for something she didn't partake of. She then pointed to a portion of their write-on menu that explained that non dining patrons were not permitted to eat leftovers or would be charged, proclaiming that each roll costs more than a dollar to prepare. The not so nice part of me responded, well I guess we know that for next time and if need be, then how about you add a dollar to my bill for your inconvenience. She ended up taking it off completely. Had she not been sneaky and underhanded and simply provided service by telling us that if she ate the food I was offering her (since she watched us like a hawk anyway) that she would be charged, it should have made for a better situation for everyone. But, it turns out, that is how they do everything. There's nothing on their menu that says tips are not shared with the servers. The servers see no parts of them. So, the $20 tip my friend left for her first sushi experience went God knows where. Fortunately enough, I tipped the server very well, in hand, and if I ever decide to blow my money in a place where I'm not welcome, I'll be sure that the server gets their due! For decent food, at a not so cheap price, for not even decent treatment by the management staff (but maybe by your server), this is the...

When you pull into the parking lot, you may wonder where you are going, a strip mall that is mostly empty, near a mall that closed down twenty years ago. Do not let the exterior sway your decision to come here! It is worth it!
Some all you can eat sushi restaurants lure you in with a reasonable price point and then fill the plates with cheap filler foods and sauces to hide the fact that real, fresh, fish is missing. NOT Kasai!! For $21.99 for an adult, you can choose from several appetizers, soups and salads, a nice selection of EXCELLENT sashimi, and many different specialty rolls.
I like my miso soup - so I started there (a bit saltier than I am used to) but good and hot. Also ordered the pepper tuna, dinosaur egg and a sampling of sashimi to taste the quality before ordering more. The plates were to my table in under 5 minutes. The pepper tuna had good spice and texture, with a nice acidity balance. The Dinosaur Egg looked daunting to begin with.... bigger than a mouthful, or so I thought. The Dinosaur Egg is spicy tuna, wrapped in avocado, with a trio of sauces - sesame, eel and spicy mayo - topped with fried sweet potato strands on top, for crunch. Bit the first one in half and regretted not having the total mouthful... great balance of sweet and spicy, creamy and crunchy texture.... yummm.
Ordered additional sashimi. Every piece was a generous size of quality fresh, fish. Not one or 2 day old scraps or leftovers here. No fishy smell, great fish taste, nice texture.
Generous menu selections available for specialty rolls and decided upon the Amazing Tuna roll, I asked for mine extra spicy. Every bite yummy, and reminiscent of bacon, probably from the pepper tuna across the top.
Ended with the banana tempura dessert. Could have done without the sprinkles and cheap chocolate syrup and whipped cream. The batter was crunchy and the banana was ripe and full of flavor.
I have eaten sushi at a lot of places, always happy to try new ones, even when they miss the mark. Kasai hit...
Read moreI went there today after fasting and needing to do my laundry. I was motioned to sit at a dirty table and then the woman who cleaned it off before I sat down left large bits of food stuck to the booth! It really seemed at the time, that she had looked down at them after putting no effort to wipe the booth down then looked right at me and then said, your booth is ready! I asked to sit at a cleaner booth and I did. Like I said, I needed to eat, but the only reason why I bought so much stuff is because I really wanted to talk to someone in charge at the end about her inferiority. I mean, I've cleaned restaurants before and have had to do hard physical labor cleaning at dead minimum wage in the past, so I get it, it's really not fun, but I was really insulted by her attitude and actions. My server Hope, was fine, the food is good, as a connoisseur, it's good sushi. I've never had potato tempura and the texture of it was really good, ginger wasn't as fresh as it certainly could be, pretty ok priced over all, atmosphere is pretty laid back, a nice, open restaurant. Come to find out the woman who acted that way to me was the manager! I'm disgusted, honestly, like I said. I was really looking forward to being a regular here and after that pitiful experience, I can't even recommend you eat here! Go downtown or up north if you want a...
