Stopped here on the way through Indianapolis on our way to Chicago. We were just looking around maps and thought to look up Peruvian food since we both love it and don’t have much in our own home area. This place came up, with 5 stars and we read all the glowing reviews and decided to try it. So glad we did, in fact I want to plan another trip to Indianapolis just to go again.
We got in and were immediately seated by a kind woman. We ordered an Inca Kola and later the chef offered us a Chicha Morada to try, which is a traditional Peruvian drink made from purple corn and cinnamon and paired excellently with the meal star, the ceviche!
We started with two appetizers, the Leche de Tigre and the Anticucho of Heart and Rachi. The leche was so citrusy and bright, and the fish had great texture, firm but tender. A subtle heat, and a generous portion size for an appetizer. The Anticucho is not something we would normally order but we went for it, and it was so good I would get it twice over. Perfectly tender tripe, well balanced, deep savory flavor and smokiness of the grill with a couple of potatoes on the side. YUM.
Of course the reason we were there was for the ceviches. We got the Asu Mare, and the Chiclayano and both were delicious, and good portions. The octopus in the Asu Mare was so tender and the leche had almost the hint of sweetness to balance the citrus and heat. The Chiclayano was more savory, and had an option to be more or less spicy (we went for más picante). There was nothing left when we were through.
This was hands down the best ceviche I’ve had in the Northern Hemisphere of Earth. If you’re a ceviche lover like us, just go there you will love it. The waitress was accommodating to us with our limited Spanish but as other reviewers have mentioned, you can easily navigate without knowing Español. 10/10 ,5 out of 5 estrellas...
Read moreThe food and service here are absolutely amazing! Visited a week ago but forgot to post a review. We had the Ceviche Asu Mare as an appetizer. I can't say enough good things about the taste and quality of this dish. The seafood was tender and the broth was exploding with flavor. Bright and citrusy with a bit of heat. We saved the sweet potato for the end of the bowl and it was the perfect final sweet and tangy bite. Currently craving another bowl right now!
My husband had the Chaufa Amazonico, which was a fried rice dish with pork and chorizo. The rice had a wonderful creaminess to it with the whole dish having just the right amount of char/smokiness. The portion was huge as he ended up taking about a third of it home.
I had the Parihuela, a seafood soup in a tomato broth that was served with rice. The seafood was plentiful and tender and the broth was so flavorful. Served piping hot. Again, the portion was huge and I took about half of it home.
Our waitress was so sweet and helpful. We unfortunately do not speak Spanish and our waitress didn't speak much English, but that didn't hinder our service or experience in any way. We were able to point to items on the menu while our waitress helped us with pronunciations. The hostess was amazing as well. She spoke fluent English and checked on us from time to time to ensure we were satisfied with everything.
Overall, this restaurant and its staff are incredible and we will continue to return to try new dishes and definitely get...
Read moreFrom the moment I stepped into Pisco Mar, I was transported to the heart of Peru, thanks to their authentic and vibrant atmosphere. The highlight of my culinary journey was undoubtedly the Chicha Morada, a traditional Peruvian drink. It was the perfect blend of sweetness and spice, making each sip a delightful experience.
But the real star of the show was the Tacu-Tacu. This Afro-Peruvian dish was a symphony of flavors, with its perfectly seasoned beans and rice, complemented by a succulent topping that simply melted in my mouth. Each bite was a testament to the chef's expertise in blending traditional Peruvian ingredients with a modern twist.
The service, Steve, at Pisco Mar was impeccable, with staff who were not only friendly but also knowledgeable about the menu, offering recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the authenticity, with decor that was both elegant and traditional, creating a warm and welcoming environment.
In conclusion, dining at Pisco Mar was more than just a meal; it was a cultural experience. The Chicha Morada and Tacu-Tacu are must-tries for anyone seeking to explore the rich flavors of Peruvian cuisine. I left Pisco Mar with a full stomach and a heart longing to return for another taste of Peru. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an exceptional...
