Been going to this trail for around 20 years...yes thats correct...It has changed considerably in that time. Im pretty sure it started out as a dirt bike trail. Well the trail has been tamed down a lot from when I first experienced it and the trail routes have been reformatted several times. For the most part it is quasi-easy to moderate skill trail although there are a few tricky spots. These generally have a warning but not always. Its about 7 miles long I guess if you do both sections divided basically by I 465 which you go under for the southern part. The southern part is more prairie like and the northern part is where the tricky areas are some of which can actually be dangerous especially to the unaware. Speed can both make it more fun and somewhat more tricky..... The rocky area just north of 465 on your way back, when you go back into the woods deserves some caution as well as tetnus hill very near the end of the circuit. Have fun but PLEASE wear a HELMET . Oh yea there is wildlife there of course but the deer( a few ) can surprise you and even be right...
Read moreBIKERS Been coming here regularly for years. It's an outstanding, well maintained mountain bike trail with features to appeal to all skill levels. Some spots might be a little narrow and scary for kids, but I've seen plenty of kids on the trail (including my own) so it's totally doable.
RUNNERS People do occasionally come here to run as well. While you technically can do that, I wouldn't recommend it unless you do the following: First, pay attention to the trail direction as it varies by day. ALWAYS GO THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE BIKERS! Some of the bikers here are really fast riders carving around blind corners. It can be REALLY dangerous to come around a corner and find foot traffic in the middle of the trail, back facing you, headphones in, and totally oblivious to the biker skidding to an emergency stop at their back. Don't be...
Read moreA basic to intermediate mountain biking trail within easy driving distance from downtown Indy and most of its suburbs. I did my first MTB session here and found it to be challenging yet doable. Beginners can take it slow and manage it well at around an hour, and the more experienced tend to race it to better their speed as training for timed events (doable in half an hour if experienced). The ride is quite scenic along the White River. It can be congested as this is only one of a few courses in the Indy area, so make sure to let faster people pass by as this is common MTB courtesy. If the gate is closed, please don't ride on it. They make sure that the course is preserved from damage when it's too wet, so recent rain may preclude the...
