i am a traveling musician and i played a gig in Indianapolis the night before. i worked out at planet fitness and saw this restaurant next door to planet fitness and thought i would try it.
in nashville, my two favs are Waffle House and First Watch. WH is inexpensive with a limited menu but the food is really good and they always welcome everyone who comes thru the door with a chorus of "welcome to Waffle House!". you always feel welcome.
First Watch is more upscale, with more bougie offerings like avocado toast etc. they also are very welcoming.
when i saw the sign for this restaurant, i expected more of a First Watch experience. Based on the well designed logo and branding, i expected more of a Indiana version of a First Watch. Sadly, no.
when i walked in, i thought they were about to close. there was a mop in a mop bucket leaning against the host desk and a yellow "wet floor" warning sign on the floor, and a manager type person was asking an employee if they had mopped around a particular set of tables. i stood there for a bit, no one greeted me even tho there was a woman standing behind the hosting desk. after standing there for a bit i finally asked if i should seat myself. employees looked at each other in confusion and finally someone seated me. there i sat for awhile wondering if I should leave. finally i hear a server say "did anyone take care of A4, cuz i'm leaving". apparently A4 was me. finally someone came and took my order, but she definitely seemed preoccupied and wishing she was something else. she also got part of my beverage order wrong.
btw, i came in around 1:50 and they don't close till 3:00. The mop in bucket continued to lean against the host desk until i finished my meal.
maybe not a big deal, but it gives the impression that the restaurant is closing soon and you need to get out. people kept coming in and getting seated until i finished my meal and left.
food was okay, but reading the reviews on google as i waited for my food (one person claimed to find a cockroach in their food, and many 1 star ratings) disquieted me and made it difficult to enjoy my food. i spent a lot of time examining my food for foreign substances. thankfully i found none.
in summary, maybe i'm spoiled by southern hospitality. nonetheless, i will not be back to this restaurant nor would i recommend it to...
Read moreThe reviews looked good for this place, so my wife and I decided to eat here for a late breakfast.
The restaurant was busy, but they still had plenty of tables when we arrived. I didn’t feel all that warmly greeted, but we were seated immediately.
Our server was very friendly. I had some questions about the menu. Some items were priced incorrectly, and some items were no longer available. Disappointing, but there were still a lot of options.
We both ordered the French toast combo, which seemed like a steal at $7.49. We both had bacon. My wife ordered her eggs scrambled, and I had over easy.
My wife had coffee as well. She thought it was really good, and it stayed hot for her entire meal.
The food arrived quickly enough. I asked my wife how her eggs were, and she said, “Cold.” I thought that was odd for how quickly the food came out. My eggs were cool as well. The French toast was OK, again kind of lukewarm. Our bacon not hot either, but the flavor was amazing, so that one gets a pass.
My wife commented that she wished she would have been offered a refill on her coffee, but we were ready to go, so even if she were offered some, she wouldn’t have taken it.
Will I give this place another chance? Maybe. But there are so many other breakfast...
Read moreEverything was great about this visit - the servings were plentiful, the service was exemplary, and the food was really good & fresh. HOWEVER... About halfway through our meal, a couple of the employees were cleaning a table & the surrounding floor area that were really dirty. After the employees got done cleaning the table & chairs, they swept the floor & then they decided to mop the floor. Mopping wouldn't have been so bad EXCEPT that they were using bleach water to clean & the smell was SO POWERFUL that it almost ruined our breakfast. Then, about the time that smell dissipated, they were getting ready to mop another part of the floor with the same bleach water. Fortunately, we stopped them & asked them to wait until we were gone because the smell was so powerful. The employee was very gracious about it & said he would definitely wait, which he did. I don't think mopping with bleach water while customers are eating in a restaurant that is somewhat small is a good idea but, other than that,...
