On 5/17/24, myself and 2 friends founds ourselves marooned in the Indianapolis Airport, our flight having been delayed 4 hrs. We popped into The Tap&Pour there in the B Concourse for a drink and apps. We each got run of the mill bar food Nachos, wings and I received completely dried out deep fried potstickers. Which I ate because I was starving. However, the real negative of the whole experience that day which saw us miss an entire half day of our trip was actually the behavior of our waitress. Unfortunately, I did not get her name, so I cannot call her out personally. I ordered a Cranberry Mule from the bar (there are no prices noted on the menu). A drink that I tend to choose whenever I am out with friends, as well as make at home. I also have more than a passing knowledge of mixology. I knew immediately that my drink had been either very lightly kissed with the the Tito’s Vodka the description claimed or it had been neglected all together. Certainly not carefully measured and containing the full 1 1/2 ounces that it should. When I got the bill at the end of our dinner and the drink was $18.25, I made the comment to the waitress (tall with long, blond ponytail) “that is a lot of $$ for a drink with little to no alcohol in it”. To which she began to reply with the company’s policy/procedure for measuring and making drinks, along with a snarky , “ I have no control over the cost of alcohol”. I had really only been looking for an apology or an “I am sorry that you were not satisfied” or even just a little witty banter about it. I was not looking for a removal from my bill or to cause trouble. Merely pointing it out. I really did not want a recitation of the rules. I SLID my credit card approx 6” from me to her across the table to her and said “just run it”. She turned and walked off. Next thing I knew, the manager had arrived to complete the remaining transactions. He repeated the same party line. We got up to leave. I overhear our waitress not quietly further defaming my character by reshaping the story into ending with me raising my voice and THROWING my card at her! I tried to turn around and ask her her what was up with that, but she saw me and busied herself with another customer. My friends and I left SOH and laughing a little about her need to make so much drama out of an interaction that should have, for a seasoned vet of a waitress or one maybe having a better day than the 3 of us, just let roll right off...
Read moreBased on the previous reviews, I’m actually glad I was overlooked (possibly ignored) and not served at this place.
Yesterday around 11am (I did not observe a lunch rush) I was traveling solo and had time to dine-in to eat so I chose this place as it was right at my gate. I sat at the end of the bar and I observed three bartenders who were tending to patrons who all seemed to have been served already all while the staff looked to have time to lounge around and chat with each other.
A younger looking staff member(black shirt and red banded braces) was checking on a couple next to me when I asked him for a menu. He did and after bringing me a water I said I was ready to order but his reason for not taking it was because his till wasn’t located where I was sitting and said he could tell the other bartender I was ready order. That bartender he mentioned was at the far opposite end of where I was sitting. I’d been waiting for sometime by then and asked him how much longer would I have to wait since I did have to grab a staff members attention and ask for a menu at this point. He replied that he couldn’t tell me how much longer I’d have to wait. Also, this same guy who couldn’t take my order was checking on other patrons around me but unable to at least put my order in. Maybe I would have been served on the rear side of the restaurant but to me it appears that bad service is unavoidable at this place. In total I waited nearly 15 minutes before...
Read moreAbsolutely shocking NORMAL food prices for an airport establishment. The food is typical for what’s usually labeled as “American”, but it’s very high quality (think “Chili’s that’s ran by not a drunk manager, and kitchen guys are sober too”). Service, at least on the bar side, is instantaneous, even though they were full to the degree “it’s packed but I can find a place to sit in 30 seconds”. There’s bar side, where me and my wife ate, and a restaurant side on the other side of the kitchen (where kids are allowed too). Can’t speak for the restaurant side, but can only assume that they deliver the same (high) level of service there too. It’s in Concourse B, but even if you’re flying from A, it’s walkable in 10 min. All in secure zone, so no “triple TSA” bs to get there from any other place in the airport after you get through security. Yeah, and selection of beers there is rather high quality.
As good lunch, normally, is a highlight of my hectic day - I’m a man of simple habits - IND’s The Tap truly delivers.
Very highly...
