Disappointed by Owner – Will Not Return

I really hate to leave a bad review, especially because the staff at Heirlom have always been so kind and pleasant. I’ve supported this restaurant many times and genuinely appreciate the people who work there. However, my recent experience with the owner was so unpleasant that I feel compelled to speak up.

I placed an Uber Eats order and included a polite note requesting ketchup and Cholula sauce. To my surprise, I received only one packet of ketchup and one packet of Cholula. When I called to follow up, the owner informed me that her staff is “instructed” to only include one of everything unless a specific quantity is stated. I explained that I wasn’t aware of this policy—how would a customer know they need to specify “3 packets” in the app?

Rather than listening or showing any empathy, the owner became rude and defensive from the very beginning of the call. I remained calm and simply tried to explain the situation, but she interrupted me and abruptly said, “I’m not doing this with you,” and hung up. It was shocking and honestly very disrespectful.

To make matters worse, I paid $50 for a burrito because the owner required me to add an $8 item in order to include vegan eggs in my vegan breakfast burrito—a substitution I’ve made before just by leaving a note, with no issue. She even said she’d “get on her staff” for doing this in the past, which made me feel worse, because again, the staff is lovely and doesn’t deserve blame for something so minor.

The food at Heirlom is honestly not worth the price—it’s just okay, and definitely overpriced. I only continued to support it because of the great staff and its proximity to my favorite coffee shop next door. But after this experience with the owner, I won’t be returning. Ordered the truffle tots, deviled eggs, short rib cheese steak, and my girlfriend got the grilled cheese. First off nice people, just dressed up subpar food. The short rib cheese steak is an open faced sandwich? Why? It's awkward to eat and falls apart. The short rib itself was dry and almost flavorless and the sauce was barely enough to help me finish most of it. The grilled cheese bread to cheese ratio is 4/1 mostly bread. The tomato soup is supposed to be used to cover the lack of cheese I assume but their house made soup is more of a bland sauce than soup. To add to that, the grilled cheese came out cold, it wasn't grilled and the cheese was not melted. The deviled eggs were nothing to write home about and the tots were the only item that was decent besides the old oil aftertaste they had. Honestly, everything but the tots was under seasoned and tasted as if it was made for people trying to lower their blood pressure. I feel like coming an hour before close wasn't the issue or maybe it was. However, I wanted to like the place because it looks nice and service was decent. Amazing food! It's just what Indio needed a new a restaurant like Heirloom Craft Kitchen One of it's kind so unique. The table booths are super comfy. I tried the Heirloom burger it was my cheat day omg heaven! Way better than any burger in town. I had the sweet potatoes frieds It comes with delicious housemade ketchup I usually dont like ketchup but this one is really good. The sweet potatoes fries where really good too. I loved it so much I tried it again. This time I got something from the Vegan side of the menu. I tried the Impossible Tacos WOW I never had anything like it. I tried vegan before but I din't like it. This time at Heirloom Craft Kitchen I tired their vegan tacos omg Bomb tacos I really really loved it. They taste like the REAL thing I was so happy to know that I can have vegan food without sacrifising taste.
